Hi John

I might have a picture somewhere of Eric Dawson s Foden, i will try and find it. She was always driven by Charlie Kingston at Dawsons, though I did the occasional trip when my ERF was off the road. Charlie could make her fly, up and down that 12 speed box like a man possessed. You may remember Eric mounted a spare wheel on the front bumper and Charlie was in much demand to shove motors that would not start in the mornings when away from home. Unfortunately this had a habit of straining the retaining studs and more than once the wheel came away, with Charlie driving over it in spectacular fashion. Eric was not impressed to say the least!

I see from a recent post from his daughter in law , that Eric is very much alive, despite me reporting that he had passed away, based on a conversation with someone a few years ago.

Regards

Bob

A short while back someone came on & asked about a firm called Lewis Bros who ran tippers on aggregates, but it seems to have gone off the forum for some reason , anyone remember it ?, Regards Larry. PS, I had a Foden that was theirs from new.

Its still on page 5 Lawrence

Re. Lewis Bros.I had one of their Mickey Mouse Fodens 8 wheeler tipper VTU.291E. cracking motor, great puller, with its 150Gardner. held its own with anything,I wish I had kept it, I sold it to a pal of mine from Perth for his son, his first wagon, & he he loved it, ran it on distance work for 4 years.I bought it from Sellers & Kent IIam ,Ashborne,I ran it quite a while never let me down once, the reason I changed it was the work I was doing called for bigger tonnages ,so I got the Artic, which increased the load by 6 Tonnes, if you look on Srapbook Memmories its on there, Regards Larry

Hya guys. I never knew Charlie Kingston worked there, but its got to be the same character who I worked with for a few years at James Irlam at Chelford. Big beard, bigger belly and a really dry sense of humour. Yep, there could only be Charlie who could run over a bumper and then blame you (the shoved) for not letting him know it was gonna fall off. I think he was a keen caravanner and would regularly travel all the way from home in Macc for a weekend in Holmes Chapel. I like him!
