Caught out by POA!

Daz1970:
Best to use bed symbol (break or rest periods) if you can, presuming you can dispose of your time freely. The only problem with bed mode is some firms don’t pay breaks - that’s when POA should be ‘utilised’. But you still need a 45 mins break when 4.5 hours driving time is reached.

POA is not considered a break as you are effectively on standby. Except for double-manning purposes when driver 2 (non-driver) mode will always default to POA when vehicle is moving, and mode cannot be changed whilst vehicle is in motion.
VOSA state that the 1st 45 mins. of a driver 2 POA will be accepted as a break.

Do you actually know of any firms that don’t pay all the time recorded as break?

Never worked for any…but I’m sure some have or do■■? Otherwise, if breaks are paid - no need for POA to be used■■?

Write down the fortnightly driving time every morning and work out your 41/2 hrs from that. If the poa does reset it after 30 min when you have a break after 41/2 this probably won’t reset it, then you end up with 5 or 6 hrs on the clock but you now your ok if you work it out from the time you wrote down.

Their are drivers on here that don’t get payed for all or some of their breaks, I posted a poll last week on that subject.

Never used POA, always on break.

Nor me, I have, like another member have accidentally put it POA but changed it to break pretty sharpish!
POA is one of the biggest things that has screwed this job up for us all!
