Cat C taken away without notice from the DVLA!

theonlybigman:
Anyone else had this problem or similar?

Yes, I’ve come across the odd case, where if things wind up in the “medical section”, it’s a bit of a black hole and can take some time to sort out.

Granted, they do okay compare to the scale of things - 45 million driving licence records, and about 35 million vehicles.

theonlybigman:
Does anyone know an avenue of complaint to the DVLA as this is a farce!

Tbh it seems that this ‘farce’ is mainly due to the actions of the driver and not the DVLA. The form was filled in incorrectly, they sent a letter which he claimed not to receive (rubbish IMO), the medicals were out of date so of course they’re going to remove the category.

Sorry, but you’re wrong, the farce is due to the DVLA and their methods. Unless you have had experience of their inept attitude towards dealing with queries, I can’t see how you can pass comment. I tried for 14 years to get my LGV provisional, applications kept being turned down due to an Arrythmia condition. They finally decided, 2 years ago, that I was fit enough to drive LGV, after managing to get support from the leading consultant on my condition in the UK. Despite all that, they still managed to drag the process out for nearly a year, at times daring to question someone with more knowledge that their whole medical team put together. They contacted various other Dr’s and consultants numerous times, by post, it seemed as if they were doing everything they could to delay the process. I made numerous complaints, yet nothing seemed to hurry them up. They are a law unto themselves, with a complete disregard to their customers.
As for not receiving their letters, quite plausible, if you consider how much inbound mail they manage to lose, then its entirely possible they manage to lose some of their outbound mail.

I wish this thread was yesterday, sent my liscence off just for a new photo god knows what ill get back and I never copied any off it :/.

You’ll be very unlucky if there’s a problem.

But, in future, I would as has been suggested, ‘lose’ your licence. I always do this as a ■■■■ up can be easily and clearly sorted and with minimum delay.

never sent any of my old originals back…just in case

I knew someone who passed auto psv and when it came back it had full class one hgv and psv would you have said anything

Just had a 5 year medical and duly sent my licence back to DVLA…Hang on a minute, the expiry date for my medical was now aligned with the date my photocard licence expired and not my birthday …I don’t think so…In effect I was losing 5 weeks of my 5 yearly medical entitlement…After e-mails,phone calls and a letter to the DVLA I was sent an apololgy and now the correct date is being amended on my licence…So to all truckers when you have your licence returned after a medical, scrutinise it with a fine tooth comb…

Over the years I have heard lots of horror stories from drivers entitlements missing when receiving licences back after a change of address and the like.
I always scan to my pc and external hard drive and keep a copy of both sides of my licence card and the paper part to prove my entitlements did exist

Keep your original (both parts) & THEN when new licences come through - check all details are correct & post old licences back to them - as advised by DVLA. Before posting them back, cut the photocard in two. They are phasing out the initial ‘sending in’ of LGV/PCV licences for updates/changes, partially to do with DCPC Periodic Training attendance & not having your licences - reason being: ‘they are away at Swansea’.

big boots:
just done 2 photocopies of all my parts, you got me thinking,do’nt want to send it off next year and all records disappear :open_mouth:

Well sonny, if you don’t want to send it off then don’t send it off, its that simple :bulb:
Simply tick the box stating you have lost/misplaced it and then find the original licence when new one arrives, after checking entitlements dispose of expired original licence

One of my drivers had his licence returned to him by the DVLA after he changed his address and the Cat C (Class 2) was gone! We rung them up and they said the medical form that he had completed the month before was not filled in correctly and they sent it back to him. It went to his old address, allegedly, but this was not a problem as he re-directed his mail. He didn’t receive this letter and the first he knew of the problem was when he passed the new licence to me and I noticed it.

We were advised to fax a copy of the medical (a new medical as the old one would be too old now at a cost of £90) and eye test certificate so they could process it but this would take up to 3 weeks! After a week of ringing to see if it was all good, I was told the fax was not an acceptable means of passing this onto them it would need to be posted. One week wasted! So £7 for a super doper registered delivery later it was gone. They confirmed the letter was received, so we can asked can we have it hurried up as the chap cannot drive and is losing money. No, we don’t do that say DVLA!

Another week passes, still no answer that it is on the system. Driver leaves for holiday for two weeks. On his return on his door mat, no not the licence, but the eye test certificate. The letter explains that the eye test certificate is too old in relation to the date on the medical, so a new one of them is required!!! Driver gets a courier off his own back to whizz the new eye test certificate to DVLA at a cost of £92 that day.

Ring them again to confirm receipt. They confirm receipt but advise it could still take 3 more weeks!

Anyone else had this problem or similar?

Does anyone know an avenue of complaint to the DVLA as this is a farce!

Why do DVLA in this day and age not use email■■? I could scan certificates email them through, an “expert” could look at them and then email confirmation. They don’t even tell the poor driver that they have revoked his licence?? This system has to change DVLA!!

I am sure they only keep this archaic system going to keep half of Wales employed, they need to change and roll with the times. Posting items through the post is ridiculous, doctors can email DVLA with scanned certificates to ensure some numpty hasn’t made one up on his PC. Come on DVLA have a heart and help the man that needs the licence to pay his bills! DVLA is shocking in its customer service, I know they deal with millions of people a year, but they need to take HGV/PCV drivers as a priority surely■■?

Hi. I had the same problem over a year ago. first complain to the Driving Licence Department at the DVLA… No Joy there, then go to the Customer Services at DVLA. No joy there then go to the following:- Mr Jonathan Wigmore, Independent Complaints Assessor, c/o ICA Administration, Agency Sponsorship Team, Department of Transport, Zone 4/33 Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR. They are fighting my case for me at the moment, Im claiming 6 months loss of earnings. If no joy for you on that go to. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, Millbank Tower, Millbank, London. SW1P 4QP. any problems give me a call email. benjamin.bronson41@gmail.com
