Looking into the early Brockhouse transporter trailers I came up with these.
oiltreader
how did they tip the top deck on these if they were on dealer deliveries or were they just on exports??

Another firm from away back that comes to mind was Overland of Carlisle, at that time the only transporter firm using Merc units, the trailers looked quite lightweight and may have been Carter, the cab colour I think was blue and white. Anyone else remember them.

Overland was a company set up by Mr & Mrs Macdowell the mother & father of Ray & Grant ECM (East ■■■■■■■ Motors), didn’t know their first names as they were known as Mac & Mrs Mac by the drivers and it seems everyone else; they operated out of Carlisle Airport. Overland was sold out to MCD on the condition they stopped out of the industry for a given amount of years. ECM started shortly after that with Ray. Mac was a hell of an engineer and built the first tri-decker that I had seen out of a Carter semi trailer with an electric tail lift. You are right they did operate Mercs but before that Traders & TS3s and they had one Leyland Super Comet on a Carter drawbar. They were Blue and white with the rose & thistle on the door. We both had compounds next to each other behind Bobs Cafe Kidlington & helped each other out depending who was busy.

Pollystag, I think I’m right in saying and I will be corrected if I’m wrong, the deck came down as it is and slightly backwards as can be seen in the slots in the front pillars, the deck is angled up at the front to clear the cab, hence the very steep deck when loading, so the back would come right down, where as the front only came half way down. hope thats clear enough. The Carrimore Mk 1 and Mk 2 had extentions fitted at the front and back, after the change in the law in 1964, this resulted in you having to jaknife the lorry round to get the deck down. This was ok on dock work, but on garage deliveries, caused problems in the average high street.
