Hi, Peter, thank you very much for your interesting reply . I think i can remember BRS at the Bowyers works . Also i was interested to know that Swindon had an allocation of Bristols .
Were Scibbons and Kunzle based in that area ? , as i always thought the latter were Brum based . anyway many thanks regards keith

Hi Keith. In the 50’s and 60’s BRS Contracts had over 2400 lorries. A high proportion were 3 ton vans including large fleets for Cadbury, Frys, Mackintosh, Kunzle Cakes, Scribbons Kemp, Bowyers and AEI. They varied from 1 or 2 per depot to 100 or more in the London depots some of which were Contract only. They even had the odd van for Pan-Am and Barclays Bank! In the early 60’s they took over the Grimsby Fish contract and the Austin dropsides arrived everywhere. East Angia had a fleet of 20 tippers working for the British Sugar Corporation, firstly Mammouth Majors and then Bristols. Oxford District had the large fleet of Pressed Steel/Morris artics and South Wales had the fleets of Briton Ferry Steel first Octopus 8 wheelers then Bristol. Hope this helps. Peter

Tilbury Docks. Me being outa touch, Toleman I know, is Ford Direct of Ford Motor Company?.
oily

I delivered that MAN to Tilbury when we started Ford Direct (I was working for Axial at the time)…

Does anyone have any photos of Hazelwood Haulage transporters? I started there in 1982, we subbed for Car Removal (Datsun) out of Middlesbrough and Southampton, and did a fair bit for Minster Motors too.

This looks a bit of a handful.

The story as I heard it was, after this was rolled only 100 yds from the depot gates, the driver who was known for being carfull with his money, asked if he would be paid for the time it took to clear up.

My friend, who has since passed away, was working for MIRA at the time of this accident. He told me an identical vehicle with an identical load went to MIRA test track and was driven around the track by a professional driver to see if he could turn it over. Martin asked why they use brand new Jags and he was told it had to be identical because the insurance had to know if it was driver error or not. I should point out the truck had stabilizers fitted so it wouldn’t actually go over and the driver never got near to turning it over. Not sure of the outcome.

Now going back a bit again, Carfax Transporters, same load going around for photo shoots. I remember them but can’t think where they were based.
oiltreader

think they used to be based in brackley

Hello Paul,
In some of my earlier posts on this thread I have mentioned a Ken Booker, who I worked with in the '60s, any relation? He had all the skills of a general haulage driver, specially reversing a wagon and drag, he was on BRS at Sandy Lane before coming on Progressive Cartransporters, I learned a lot from him.
