A couple of pics from the States. An all-enclosed with the biggest sleeper ever to haul cars and a nice Peterbilt with some pick-up trucks.

Prestcold was the fridge (domestic and industrial) making branch of the Pressed Steel Company, Cowley. Prestcold made up from Pressedsteelcompanyltd. The Pressed Steel Company had factories at Cowley, Swindon, Theale and Swansea, also ■■■■■■■ with Fisher and Ludlow, Castle Bromwich. Domestic fridges were made at Cowley, industrial ones at Theale. I am going back to the 50s and 60s so memory is being pushed, car bodies made at PS Cowley were Morris, Wolseley, MG, Hillman,Humber, Sunbeam and Rolls Royce, and later I believe Rover(SD1) . Both my neighbours, either side worked there, one on the Rolls Royce( that was at the top end corner bypass and Horspath Road, the other on the Rootes Group stuff he was a lead buffer, smoothing out lead filled spot welded seams. A politcal decision opened the Swansea factory(60s?) and fridge production was moved from Cowley. The PS factory in Swindon was at Stratton St Margaret, car bodies were made there for some of the Midlands factories not sure which, later with the BL / Honda tieup the Acclaim shell was pressed at Swindon and completed at Cowley. The then PS Swindon is now where the BMW Mini body panels are made. The bodyshell transporter traffic back then was something else and almost all BRS running between, Cowley, Swindon, Coventry, Birmingham, Solihull and Castle Bromwich, criss crossing the country. That is as I remember it, so fading memory an excuse if detail isn’t correct.

Hi oily, thanks very much for your information very interesting stuff , i did not realise that psf made fridges at Cowley !
I suppose those trailers at Swindon were for car shells rather then the complete vehicle . I think the BRS Swindon was at Greenbridge , and was almost exclusively for PSF or did they perform other duties ? Once again oily thanks regards keith

Hi Keith. As far as I remember about 95% of the fleet worked for the Pressed Steel contract and were painted light or dark blue. They had 10 Bedford O type shunters in the yard that were replced by the BMC units but the majority on the road were Commers and later the Austins and then the Super Comets and the Ergo cabs. The general haulage fleet was made up of Bristols,Mercurys, the odd ERF,Guy and Foden. There was also a contract fleet of about of about 40 vehicles including Bowyers, Kunzle Cakes, Scribbons biscuits and of coarse Pressed Steel. The semi trailers only carried the car shells as Oxford depot delivered the completed cars. Peter
Heres a few old french car transporters.
2 More from the Kev Brownlee Collection, I had H124 DBW, WES off Edwin Shirley had H123 and my Brother had H125, with Kevin having this one H126

Hi Keith. In the 50’s and 60’s BRS Contracts had over 2400 lorries. A high proportion were 3 ton vans including large fleets for Cadbury, Frys, Mackintosh, Kunzle Cakes, Scribbons Kemp, Bowyers and AEI. They varied from 1 or 2 per depot to 100 or more in the London depots some of which were Contract only. They even had the odd van for Pan-Am and Barclays Bank! In the early 60’s they took over the Grimsby Fish contract and the Austin dropsides arrived everywhere. East Angia had a fleet of 20 tippers working for the British Sugar Corporation, firstly Mammouth Majors and then Bristols. Oxford District had the large fleet of Pressed Steel/Morris artics and South Wales had the fleets of Briton Ferry Steel first Octopus 8 wheelers then Bristol. Hope this helps. Peter
Dug out some more , Len Rogers and Richard Mohr have kindly given me permission to post from their large collections (some transporters) so one or two to be going on with.
