Canada to California Diary with pics whole trip now

Rob K:
Good read and nice pics. Where is all the traffic ā– ā– ? In every pic of every county you go through you have the entire road to yourself. :open_mouth:

Looking forward to next week.

Them pics are all taken in rush hour Rob, its a myth that people emigrate out here there`s no one here but me all the other ex-pat posters on here are just sat in grotty little bedsits with there free laptops given to em by Gordon Brown

Conor:
So let me get this right. You pick up a load of flour in Canada and drive it all the way to California? And as I recall, isnā€™t the GVW something like 32 metric tonnes thus meaning youā€™re effectively limited to around 17-18 tonnes load?

Surely itā€™d be cheaper to send it by rail?

You could well be right there Conor  but i hope they don`t catch onto it i quite like that run

Heh-heh, so would I. Iā€™d be quite happy to do that run for a year or two. Obviously it must be worth it otherwise youā€™d not be doing it.

hi, was that vittera on can oat drive PLprairie you loaded south and LIL something in Olds you loaded bales o sawdust stuff at ā– ā–  lol,lil have some intresting drops ,back of beyond and then some ā€¦
used to do both regularly .

lolā€¦ ya dont have to tell me if ya have to kill me after telling me ā€¦

Hi boys
Nianiamh, what great photos thanks for posting them. And what a good speed average, you couldnā€™t do that up the A55 coast road, well not without a copper on your tail

Regards Keith.

Hi nianiamh,
Good to see your pics with the captions, glad you are doing OK across the pond.
Cheers Dave.

Great diary mate looks like you had a good trip keep them photos coming

Many thanks for that Link ; it looks like a great piece of kit
have you had any trouble with it , the reason I ask, did not one
of the members on here have it fitted to his trucks as well
if it is very reliable then that would be the way to go over here
as some countries do not allow trucks to run their engine whilst
parked up , cheers once again

Good diary mate, saves me doing one

Iā€™m in mythbuster mood :unamused: You cannot idle a truck in CA at all, no dispensation is made for animals, thatā€™s just truckstop BS, so is the clean truck thing, I know you said you got a ticket Jimmy, but you shouldā€™ve told them bollox, if your lights, licence plate and conspicuity markings were clean then thereā€™s no law being broken, Iā€™ve got a black truck, usually pull a black trailer too, it shows every bit of dirt there is, I run CA a lot and although I keep it clean whenever possible Iā€™ve been through there with it absolutely minging, been scaled like it and it never raised an eyebrow, Iā€™ve even gone past Jon and Ponch hiding under under a bridge while doing 10mph over the limit with a minging truck and not been stopped, mustā€™ve been my lucky day

Great diary, great pictures and a good read. What i would like to know is what speed do you average on the main highways  because you are covering some good distances, and what is the max speed for wagons out there

mark i had came down from angusville crossed at portal , with snow most o the way ,i was stopped about an hr into california after the inspection station ,the dh definately was pd about the outfit being dirty ! and told me to clean it . :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :unamused:
you are probably correct about idle law but could only go by what i saw/ heard,
different strokes for different folks though i hated california with vengence, didnt mind the midwest at all MN,OK,AR ,round st.joseph thought it was great. jimmy.

Eye spy a frita lay stander was it a dc or a factory? Dont know if i could handle those sorta kms per day you must sleep well at night.

I donā€™t doubt you Jimmy, CHP have a reputation for being slightly less forgiving than Idi Amin, they didnā€™t get that for nothing, but personally Iā€™ve not had any problemsā€¦yet

I like running down there, itā€™s hard work in the winter though, I had plenty of days where I parked up after a few hundred miles because the weather was just too bad, still itā€™s an adventure, although I much prefer going down there in the summer, it gets a bit warm, but Iā€™m a rebel and leave the old girl running and the A/C blasting away :sunglasses:

Great diary, really good read.

A couple of questions;
What is the US speed limit for HGVs and what kind of fuel returns do you get?

Fuel consumption varies, there are some trucks that get 5mpg, others that get 9+mpg, it all depends on the truck/load/driver/part of the country.

Speed limits vary from 55mph in California and Oregon to 80mph in Utah and West Texas, itā€™s said that Montana has no speed limit at all, the posted limit is 65mph for trucks, but they only introduced a speed limit when the government made them by threatening to withold all their Federal Money if they didnā€™t, Iā€™ve a mate who got pulled for doing well over 80mph (thatā€™s all his speedo goes up to) the cop said that he should really stay under 20mph over the limit and he would be not stand out so much :open_mouth:  You gotta love Montana

great diary, the photos are great, thanks :sunglasses:
regards andrew.

That was a very good diary with some good pictures but I would have liked a map of your route. Something like those guys with blogs do. Maybe your freind with the book can make one for you. After all you do plug his book alot.
