Of the two main types of construction hemispherical ends could be produced by the factory manufacturing the tube of the vessel, whereas dished ends had to come from a limited number of specialist suppliers. The problem with the former was the dimensions from the kingpin to the front of the tank which made it impossible to connect to short wheelbase UK tractors, and was not really feasible until GVW went up beyond 32t.

Three contract tankers, Grace; ICI and Border Chemicals, the latter just after the take-over of the contract from Road Services (Forth) 210
The tanker carrying "Acrylonitrile " is that still top load and discharge with a sealed system as I used to carry it regular in the 70s and 80s and it would certainly make a very good drink for the good folk at Westminster
cheers Johnnie
Yes, all the nasty liquids were top load and discharge, apart from drivers, all the engineers got product training, and recovery training, with certification on BA and first aid.
The younger generation will have been fed the line, Aye in the good old days before big brother and jobsworths and all these rules and regulations were the best, I doubt if these “hauliers” will say that.
Cylinder deliveries in South China 2004. The photo is a little blurred as I took whilst on the move in a car (I was the passenger). This method of deliveries was common in China and the motorcycle is based on a 125cc Honda. They all looked the same and were red but had different manufacturers names on the tank. It was an approved method and they were allowed to carry 5 cylinders which weighed approx 30kg each (150kg payload). However I’m not sure if they were allowed to carry a passenger as well. He looks as if he’s had a hard day as he appears to be half asleep.
These two pics show a 2x100 ton tank installation at Port Clarence (Teeside), the vessels were transported from the Midlands by Leicester Heavy Haulage, and sited on to their plinths by Econofreight, and might I say expertly done.
In the 1970’s Calor had a 40% share in Grenigas which lasted for two years before the UK management were called home. Two pics of Liquigas bottle carriers in Malta.
Three more ex Calor that survived

End of life tractor units were sometimes converted into site shunt vehicles and sprayed up in the grey colour. They were also fitted with hydraulics to lift the 5th wheel from within the cab. These vehicles were generally used in low frequency yard shunting duties such as transport yards. The main cylinder filling plants used the purpose built Douglas Tugmaster. The Swedish made Terberg shunt vehicles are purchased now.

Apart from posting pics that are just duplications of others with different fleet numbers, Ive exhausted my album, I have loads more European and USA lpg vehicles, but I started the thread with Calor, should I continue or shut up?
It would be great to see LPG tankers from other parts of the world so keep them coming, unfortunately Dublin doesn’t have a fleet of artics like that now, it along with the Belfast depot are just shadows of there once glory days.
5thDragoon, great pictures with comprehensive detail, well done yourself, keep it going wherever it comes from.
Oily
