Viking:
What can I say fellers…a big thank you to everyone.
Hi Mate. 3 of us started in Southampton on ACT we had DAF2200 day cabs on
at least 3 nights out. After a bit i fitted a fold down bunk from a wrecked CB International 2600.It was getting on for 2 years before we got 2300 sleepers
followed by a 2500 and a Ford TransCon, We used to take lorries home and as long as we coverd the contract they just left us get on with it,
When the ACT contract ended i asked that if icould find spothire work for the lorry could i keep it they said yes and worked as my own for 18 months,
When it finished i took my work to Commadore Haulage[Southampton] and said i would give him my ACT spot work if he set me up with a lorry and i got a
brand new Renult 290 GT with a night heater something CabMont would not
give us. So as said before CabMont was a very good job fore me
Found some more photos. Bubblemans photos of the Otis Daf brought back
some memories of when I was in the workshop. We had to paint a Daf in Otis
colours the only trouble it had a Hiab fitted none of us had ever used one and the levers had no instructions as we had to paint the back of the cab we had to move it . After a couple of atempts we moved it but ended up putting it through the workshop window . Cabmont had a few trucks on different contracts
Murco and Burmah petrol tankers at theale remember they a AEC, Atki Border and Leyland Buffalo. The AEC in the photo is not a contract truck just happened
to be there.

This Transcon was in ACT colours was stolen never to be seen again

Hello Viking,I can’t somehow transfer the photo, but if you look at my previous posts,on Sunday,March 7th.2010 @ 1326 I put a photo of an Atkinson on a Cabmont site.It was taken by the “Cutty Sark”. Hope this helps you in your quest. All the best,regards,900X20.
I worked for Cabmont and had the Daf 2800 RegTaa for about 2 years, did Greece,Italy,Spain and Portugal in it then had a new Transcon in British International livery, first trip in it broke down at the Bakehouse in Italy the electrics packed up. I found the trouble with early trans cons were the brakes, had to apply them half a mile before you wanted to stop, nearly ran a spanish copper over when he stepped out in front of me with his hand up in Burgos.Had some great times at Cabmont and British International, driving across Spain during the Falklands war was a bit hairy with BRITISH INTERNATIONAL in foot high letters on the tilt, I remember being in Victors at Burgos watching TV when the argies bombed one of our ships, it got a cheer from the spanish, also got some grief from the Italians as they were pro argentinian, had a few stones thrown at the cab
