Just watch your 48 hour average - holls count as 8 hours per day

ROG:
Just watch your 48 hour average - holls count as 8 hours per day

surely that doesnt come into it if it is affectively your weekly rest?

also on this note, this week i have been doing my C+E course and a little bit of driving, well-one night (10 hours) for nightfreight, do i count my course as other work or is it ‘out of scope’ because you dont use tacho’s in training vehicles?

can anyone tell me so i dont get on the wrong side of the law for the next 28 days?

:grimacing: CONGRATULATIONS Giblsa

Sorry the congrats are late mate, I was away for a couple of days and had no internet connection.

cheers dave

hope we get to meet one day so i can buy you a pint for all the help you have given me!

OH NO IT DOESN’T !!

Only statutory holidays count towards the WTD 48 hour average week, and anyway it’s not a holiday it’s a weekly rest.

Great thread, I love the day by day descriptions, informative and useful, great to see everything worked out in the end.

Oh, and congratulations on your new licence

all good things come to those who wait my friend.

i’m sure you will be ok next time, just keep your cool and take a deep breathe if it starts going to rat poop, relax and enjoy it.

do what i did and try to get the examiner talking, you will be amazed how much difference it makes on the drive.

good luck darkseeker

Well, it’s been a while

Ronaldo:
We all started somewhere, none of us were born doing it.
Things I take with me to work now are:
Butties, drinks, satnav, pens - ballpoint, felt and gel pen for different parts of tacho and envelope, ruler, ipod walkman, 2 bulldog clips and rubber bands (you will learn what for - trailer plate), beer towel, screwdriver with 6 bits, stanley knife, lock knife (you try undoing wet ropes and straps with gloves on, you will end up cutting the ■■■■ things) high vis coat and waistcoat, digi tacho paper (been told we have to carry 2 spares, not sure if true but easy enough to comply with), notepad, headache pills, wetwipes, tissues, 2 pairs of gloves - rubber and leather, book (at the moment I am reading the story of Hindley and Brady), newspaper, hat (MUFC!), sunglasses (yes I know I work nights but I drive home early morning!), money (change for coffee machines), wallet, paperwork folder containing 4 weeks tachos, timesheets weekly and daily, holiday form, some company paperwork like digi tacho instructions, fire regs, memos we are given and so on…

You’ll learn all this with experience, nobody actually teaches you these!

All well & good carting that lot around with you, but a sat nav is no replacement for a good old paper map, if you use a map you’ll learn to navigate using landmarks as reference points rather than trusting a picture on a screen, there’s a great big picture to follow if you look out your windows & you’ll learn your way about at the same time!

Also, do you really cut ropes & straps, that is VERY unprofessional mate, what about using a bit of patience or adding some Oil of Ulay to your vast collection of paraphenalia so that you can take your gloves off without having to worry about breaking a fingernail! FFS you live in England, it rains all the time man, how do you think we used to cope when every load was roped on, BTW a wet dolly is easy enough to loosen if you work backwards from the double hitch, you’ll learn that through experience not by listening to the ‘big boys’ :unamused:

PS what’s the beer towel for? Is it to put on the dash so that people think you’re hard coz you drink beer? :unamused: As they say in Italy ‘Testa di Cazzo’
