buying a car ?

Not somewhere to go when you’re fresh off the plane . You’ll have enough to think about without being stitched up on a car sale .

ill probably be in a hire car for a couple weeks to be honest. i noticed they have ex government vehicles on there too with some retaining the blue lights and sirens!! might be useful

There was a Welchman years ago, that worked for H&R, had an old 80’s black & white, I think that still had all the gear on it,like one out of the Blues Brother’s, Taffy Savalas they called him.

When I moved from the UK I brought piles of insurance history with me. I managed to find (in Ontario) a broker that took this into consideration. Only gave me three point for it mind. When I moved to Manitoba they took my Ontario no claims into consideration. I went from paying $138 a month (after 5+yrs no claims in Ontario) to $106 a month.
Two things I would bear in mind: Once you decide to stay and apply for PNP or whatever route you are going to take, you could have to show a big lump of money in you bank. In MB the PNP are asking for $10,000 even if you already live and work here! So don’t be blowing all your Wonga on a motor and other ■■■■ once you get here.
Your UK no claims only lasts for two years once you stop using it… So if things don’t work out here and you end up going back you could quite easily end up starting from scratch again. I went back to the UK for a few months last winter to sort a few things out. My previous 15 years of UK no claims was useless and if I tried to use my no claims from over here i suddenly landed into a new and very expensive category!!! The cheapest and easiest option ended up being to start all over again as a new driver :frowning: It cost me about 550GBP for a 1.6 diesel 206.

thanks for the heads up
i have about 12 years no claims over here so hopefully that gives me some sort of discount !
il definately not be rolling in a new car for a couple years if at all. i tend to stay away form finance and credit
is the money in the bank at pr time standard in all provinces ?

You don’t have to have money in the bank, if you have equity in a house, or even a car, then you meet the requirements…or you did when I did mine anyway

ok thanks for the info
houses and mortgages might be my next thread! :sunglasses:

I think that is maybe a provincial thing, we didn’t have to show any proof of funds in Alberta when I did mine.

Nor did we, well they ask, but we never had to prove anything, maybe they can access property records?

I lived in the truck at the time & didn’t even have a car or any money come to think of it.

The Manitoba PNP are asking for $10,000 for the main applicant plus $2k for every other person on the application. It says they MAY accept less if you are already living and working here :exclamation: Vehicle equity is not accepted and they want 6 months worth of bank statements :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: I haven’t been able to access the website for the past few days so I guess its down :frowning:

I’m sure they asked for that when I applied, but they never wanted any proof.

33 billion dollars in debt , the MB government are getting nervous .

You might be onto something there… They won’t let me file my tax return!

No worries Angela , get over to Gods country , SK as if you didn’t already know . Have a vacancy in Regina ,4 and 4 with decent pay  , rather see an Ex pat take it over a Canuck .

tbh, I don’t have enough time left to be moving anywhere… :open_mouth: :frowning:

Besides, I’m averaging over 60cpm and have a new glider due in the next few weeks. A new truck but without any DEF issues :exclamation: :exclamation:   Sure, I work my ■■■ off, but I’ve been there long enough to have a big say in how and when I run. I just wish this winter would do one then my life would be sooo much easier.

Bring on the summer… Heat, BBQS, sunshine, and massive mosquitos :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Life if definitely yours for the making

If you can afford it, buy the HEMI, I have one in my Charger and it is worth every penny for the noise alone, the way it picks up speed is quite entertaining too :sunglasses:

Oh and before you start Taffy, one word and it’s spelt exactly the same as ■■■■■■■■

Slows down pretty quickly to eh boyo lol.

I got a 2005 F150 last year on a lease was a bit pricey $500 a month or so but the mrs liked it so worth it for the quiet life. Upgraded at Christmas for a 2013 F150 for not a great deal more so really depends where you shop for what you want
