Buses, coaches, & lorries

A gentle, clever and entirely satisfying video. Thanks for posting!

I enjoyed it, too.
@robroy @the moaster, I realised after I’d asked, it’s on the left coast, not the right.

East Kent AEC Regent V. 1964 - I watched them being delivered brand new to Canterbury bus garages (now built on).

Heavy old things to drive and not much fun to work on either. Gearbox makes a glorious noise though.

Yes! The gearbox whine was the best bit  I like bit of gearbox wine if grown on the right side of the hill (some call it hypoid 90)

St Stephens rd now where the Canterbury garage used to be. The whole area used to flood.

Yes, indeed. The corner facing the camera (and it was an actual corner in those days with a broad alleyway running up the side), was the paint shop. East Kent’s breakdown wagons parked outside. The garage was further down the road on the left, with the open air parking for mainly school buses opposite (think tired old Leyland Titans). Then to the left of the picture further back towards Westgate towers and across the road, were the workshops and further parking. It was to those workshops that I watched the Regents being delivered in 1964.

I think I was (reluctantly) ferried to school on one (or more) of these, perhaps even this one

I think we were given thruppence each way, but on the ride home I’d walk down town and catch the town bus in Helensburgh which cost me tuppence. Although a single-decker, the town bus was also an AEC so @cav551 comment about musical gearbox still applies.

That’s a very handsome machine.

What? The BMC 1100?

:joy:

Spanish beauties.

Austin actually. We didn’t get Austin Minis or 1100s, ours were all Morris. We got Austin 1800s, the Morris Minis and 1800s facinated me, as a kid.

Whoa, I bought one, brand new, ÂŁ625. A great little motor.

Yep, the 1800 ‘land crab’ was a comfy drive :grinning:

I bought a 20 year old Volvo S60 D5 manual a few months back to flip. I couldn’t believe how solid it was.No rust whatsoever and in our climate that’s not bad.Once cleaned the paintwork came up great. The longshot of it was i lost upwards of £300 !!! I will stick with the industry i despise
