Buses, coaches, & lorries

It looks smarter in red and white, than in blue.

This is a pic from the front page of the brochure for the Guy Victory bus/coach. The date is 1958 and shows a design that must have been totally outstanding for the era. Pic by Brian Shaw.

The bodywork is almost certainly by the Belgian maker, Van Hool. That looks like a Van Hool badge on the front and here are a couple of pics of the Van Hool bodied Fiat we did a school trip in back in 1968 and the similarities are striking.

This is going back a few years, but I’m sure one of the Australians on here had one of these and I think the photo of it was in Brisvegas.

It could have been Jonckheere Ro, see the badge on the front of this:

[edit - more than likely Jonckheere, see this flickr link

Yeah, it’s mine. The red picture was taken in Sydney l believe, the blue one in Warwick.
I think there is a family link (brothers) between Crisps (the family name) and Warwick Coaches.
The coach has also been owned by the late Clarrie Skinner. Anything Hotrod Clarrie owned could get a move on, this is no exception. I chickened out at $1.20 but there was more to go.

Yes, I concur! It would appear to be Jonckheer :+1:

I had an idea it might’ve been you but wasn’t sure. Did you drive PSVs for a living or just for fun?

To be fair, you mentioning Van Hool clued me in a bit.
On the subject, IMO the Van Hool Alizee was one of the best-looking coaches of the late 80s

There wasn’t much fun in it. I only did it to get miles and years, acceptable to truck insurers.
I actually worked with Peterm, but didn’t know him then.

Something for @leyland600

A Sydney Leyland Leopard with coachwork by PMC (Pressed Metal Corporation), which I would charitably call ‘utlitarian’.

Apparently, Sydney ordered a total of 745 Leopard chassis over the years: https://www.sydneybusmuseum.com/leyland-leopard-mk-ii-1765

Yes, Van Hool stood for quality. Their coachwork always looked classy IMHO, and their trailers were beautifully built, if a little heavy (I owned an elderly Van Hool tilt that was very good).

Brisbane had similarly bodied Leopards, probably Charles Hope, Denning or Athol Hedges. Peterm would know more, they were at his depot.

Opps, that looks like a Reliance.

Try again.

What was the problem with the Bradford council Regent MKVs they ran.I’ve read that quite a few drivers at the time didn’t like them. We had quite a varied fleet in Bradford when i was growing up. Half cab Daimlers at Saltaire , half cab Leyland PD3s , Regents , Leyland Atlanteans, Daimler Fleetlines ( i think) then came the terrible Scanias a total disaster. West Yorkshire Road Car liked the Bristol Lodekkas and the rear engined Bristols and single decker Bristols. I think they went on to Leyland Nationals.

That’s quite the flickr photostream, ta for the link.

Is the blue one in the background a private operator’s?
