Went to school on a similar model to this Ray. This belongs to the Macdonald family(they own two of MacBrayne’s preserved) of Howmore South Uist, great craic with Robert Macdonald who fired it up and invited me to get behind the wheel and kindly took a snap.
Eddie.

Three great pictures of the MACBRAYNES Bedford Eddie. I have noticed for quite a while that their buses and coaches have Glasgow registration numbers.
I know that the company operated in many remote areas, both on the mainland and the offshore islands, but did they start off in Glasgow years ago ?.
The bodywork on KGD 903 looks a bit " Duple ", but I am not too sure.

Had to Google for an answer to the origins Ray, don’t know about the coachwork, come in Leyland600.
Oily

It’s a Duple

Thanks Dennis, Cheers, Ray.

Shutting shop for tonight and I’ve still got the link about MacBraynes origins I should’ve added.

Hi oily i seen the Macbraynes buses coming of the Western ferry at Hunters Quay,Dunoon a few years ago.Apparently the Macbrayne ferry was to expensive :open_mouth: cheers Ray

Hi Oily, Details of Mc Braynes Bedford OLAZ Chassis No 246291 fitted with Duple 20 seat bodywork coach seating, new in October 1952. Fleet No 162.
That is a good looking senior driver do you think he could still manage such a motor ■■
Cheers, Leyland 600

Hi G, Ta for the info  . Managing the Bedford… the head would say YES but the joints were complaining getting in and out of the seat  better the snap than a video.
Cheers

Wigan Bus Station, Friday 13th August, 2021. A couple of pictures taken earlier today of a Stagecoach bus
on route 113, Wigan to Preston. In my opinion, this " Stagecoach Gold " livery is much better than the
fairly recently introduced Multi Colour paint job.

Ray Smyth.

I found these 2 pictures of AEC buses on an email from an unknown source.
Two very smart buses from the late 1960s, from Oxford and Southampton. NMP.

The bus in your photograph is one of several recently transferred by Stagecoach from Liverpool to Preston. They mostly work on the frequent Preston - Leyland return service with some running onwards from Leyland to Wigan.
Your photograph shows SN65OCZ. Sister vehicle SN65OCY has been re-painted out of the ‘Gold’ Livery into the new Stagecoach single decker livery but they do retain the ‘Gold’ spec interior. These photos show the recently re-painted OCY at the Tesco car park bus stop in Leyland - the ‘Gold’ lettering on the rear window has been removed since the photo was taken.

Hi, Thank you for your comments and info regarding the " Stagecoach Gold " livery. I noticed as OCZ was disappearing,
that the rear route number blind was showing 111, so I imagine it was also 111 on the front indicator. During my time
as a Ribble bus driver in the late 1960s, I was always aware that some drivers and conductors could not be bothered to
set the destination and route number blinds exactly, whereas I used to check the neatness of the indicator and route
number by, when in a queue of traffic, It was possible to see my indicator in the reflection of the rear window of certain
types of cars in front of my bus.

Cheers, Ray

The boss of Strathclyde Passenger Transport would appear to have been a naughty boy. All this on a salary of £153k pa.

Fleet number L835 is a very smart Leyland Atlantean, ex Liverpool Corporation, owned and
well presented by the Merseyside Transport Trust. The location is Regent Road near to the
Brocklebank Dock. I found this Trust Flickr picture on the Bootle History Forum.

Ray Smyth.

Some pictures from an email of unknown source of scenes in Liverpool in the late 1950s and 1960s.
First picture is 3 Leyland PD2 buses, 2 of Liverpool Corporation, and the rear bus is Ribble Motors.
Picture 2 is a Ribble Leyland PD2 in Christian Street, Liverpool. The third picture is a busy scene in
Church Street in the centre of Liverpool, all of the buses appear to be Liverpool Corporation, except
the Ribble bus at the rear, a Leyland PD2 which will be on route 317, St Helens to Liverpool,or route 320,
Wigan to Liverpool. Picture 4 is many buses on London Road in Liverpool all heading to their terminus.
Again, all Liverpool Corporation except the 2nd bus, another Leyland PD2 of Ribble Motor Services.

This photograph shows a Wallasey Corporation bus negotiating the traffic island at Leasowe Road and Wallasey Village, Wallasey Wirral.

M.P.T.E { Merseyside Passenger Traffic Executive ) bus which I believe is in preservation, Route 57A was from Bridle Road to the Pier Head, the lower photograph shows the No 30 bus, this route was from a small terminus opposite Aintree Racecourse to the Pier Head, the landing stage for the ferries in the background.

I have had this photograph since I was a child ( this was a few years ago ) it was given to me by an Uncle who used to write to vehicle manufacturers asking for photographs and badges, so I have the photo’s and the badges, dont know anything about the bus or its location, no doubt someone will be able to fill in a few blanks in its history.
