Bus Drivers

Sod driving a bus for a living, I no some people enjoy it making mindless small talk with strangers but it’s basically a customer services desk on wheels, dealing with hundreds of punters a day. I do have a question for the bus drivers on here though, why is it that when you pull into a bus stop you always leave the arse end hanging out??, is it because the majority of bus drivers can’t in fact drive or is it because the shelters are always miss placed in the middle of the “lay-by” instead of at the end thus stopping your steps right next to it??

I remember you saying you were doing the lessons on your own rather than going through First. Out of a bad bunch I would say Stagy is the best in Glasgow. Scottish CityLink is as bad as First to work for. Many First Bus drivers aspire to work for CityLink, but if only they knew…

Yes, it wasnt’ really buses i aimed in, I wanted to drive tourist to highlands with one of these mini coaches companies. But thanks to stupid DVLA I wasted several months to get my provisional entitlement and by that I had no more savings to go through the rest of the course :frowning:

No offence but there’s some jobs best left to the natives and Scottish Highland tours is deffo one of them lol

Plus 9 times out of 10 coach firms prefer you to have some experience of driving buses first - see its not just transport firms

Did you read my post above? That is the main reason. People parking in the space. Bearing in mind most buses are 40ft rigids, and it always good to make sure that the rear swing doesn’t end up on something   ANYWAY. The other reason is that passengers ring the bell at ‘the last minute’ for that stop or are in the bus stop and hiding away until we’re almost there then launch themselves into the road to stop us.

And yes, a sickening crunch is heard when hitting said passenger when they launch themselves into the road to ‘force’ you to stop to pick them up. Often they won’t break the windscreen unless their heads hit the windscreen but even so, it is enough to traumatise drivers enough to keep them off work for months.

Next time you go past a bus stop, have a look to see if you can actually safely put a 40ft long object into that space left and then pull out again WITHOUT HITTING OTHER VEHICLES. Also, those that have the option of “It’s in a bus stop, push them out the way” and you’ll get sacked for damaging other property, the bus and all sorts of other stuff.

Buses usually have a mirror that is about A5 size. One mirror either side. How many do trucks have?

Gentle acceleration and braking is recommended as otherwise it is sacked for unsafe driving.

Still. I’ve not killed anyone yet. :unamused: :unamused:

They were quite happy with my lorry driving experience in Highlands.

In fact in short words was “come with class D or D1 license and you have job”. Maybe I am just lucky
