Tell him in my deepest Glaswegian accent, and puff out my 6’6" big fat hairy chest and say OK then i,ll see you outside the gate whenever you feel up to it .(/And hope they get the message because im a big softy at heart).
this is how it would be dealt with at our place. old fashioned but effective. in most cases, people who threaten violence will only respond to similiar retaliation because that is the only thing they understand or care about.
then again, we have 2 Scots from the same town who are drinking buddies so everyone knows that messing with one of us is messing with both of us
It sounds like weak management and this bloke knows that, even if he did physically harm the staff, has the manager got the balls to do anything about it?
Probably not, so it will carry on

Why, what will you do Richie? Batter him with your torch?
There’s seems to be a number of separate issues going on in this thread from Ken. Firstly there’s the original one about the bloke being repeatedly late for work and then there’s another about whether a bloke will be suitable for a managerial role which I don’t see what relevance this has to the thread.
If there aren’t any other contributing factors or good reasons why this bloke is repeatedly being late then the manager needs to issue him with a written warning about it first. If he still fails to comply with the rules and still turns up when he feels like it then there’s nothing else left to do but get shut of him. I would have thought that threatening behaviour towards his work colleague’s would also fall under the same rules as well.
It seems to be as simple as that from what I can see, so I can’t see what all the fuss is about and why the apparent “big” dilemma over it.
Every now and again Rob gets right to the heart of the problem and gives the difinitive correct answer.
People, you have just witnessed one of those times.
It’s not rocket science, and it doesn’t involve over-testosteroned idiots threatening to bash each other.
Salut, David.

I also agree with Rob on this, as he says it does appear to be a simple matter of basically being late for no reason.

sorry if already been said…
threatening with menaces - illegal, prosecutable if a reliable witness present or happened to more than one person (corroborative evidence) and as such gross misconduct even if no violence takes place.
I aint been threatened with physical violence yet where I work now cos I’m a big bugger, and always have a grin on my face like a special needs bus passenger, so it disarms people from being angry from moment 1. but the one time it happened before, and should I encounter it again, it’d go as follows: I’d say to em straight, ‘say that in front of person X (manager) if you’re brave enough, and mean it. if not, you’re just a schoolyard bully, and sorry mate but I’m a grown up, I’m not paid to put up with immature colleagues’.
the way I see it is they either lamp me, and get sacked, or say it in front of a superior, and get sacked - or shut it.
I’m happy any which way.
he can join the queue simon. must be used to them being a trucker anyway
