BRS Corby was a place I loaded off several times, usually out of their yard but odd times out of Lancs Steel or Stewart and Lloyds.Good loads for Yorks/Lancs which got me home (or a dodgy) Our gaffer would run us empty out of the Smoke to Corby probably 'cos BRS only took 10% IIRC.Rather that than hang about for a backload off Silver Roadways etc.
Harry/Chris ,
Did you two ever have any legit nights out?

I had plenty of legit nights out tony, weekends included. With Sheffield being “centre of t’universe” it was easy to get to on the old log book.I’ve fiddled from Newport Pagnell,Sleaford,Scotch Corner and of course Lichfield,A38 Burton by Pass,Derby,Leicester Forest,Manchester area,Woodhead,Worksop,Newark,Doncaster and Scunthorpe got some real hammer.Get it in the old skyrocket, only way to make it pay.I certainly had more legit nights out than Harry .
WHAT ABOUT SOUTHAMPTON,
THAT WAS A LISTED BUILDING HAD BRS PICKFORDS ECT AND IS KNOW STUDENT ACCOMADATION AND CAR PARK
Sunderland BRS depot was on Silksworth Row bank, later became the garage for Vaux Breweries. When Vaux closed down the whole lot was demolished for “re-developement”. There was a big BRS depot on the Team Valley at Gateshead which became Lynx then BRS truck rental. As far as I know the depot’s still there but Idon’t know who’s using it. There was also a Scottish BRS depot at Heworth near Gateshead, the other side of town from Team Valley, but that’s long since been flattened. Hope this helps.
HI ALL

hiya,

Hi i am new to the site so i would hope my first effort comes through . I was born in Bolton and as i young lad me and my best friend where mad for wagons , therefore we used to hang around the BRS Kay Street Depot at night just to soak up the sights and smells .The yard at the time was crammed full of Guys/ Scammells/ all fully loaded with 40 foot trailers finely roped and sheeted for the long haul. We used to hang around the Waterloo street exit which was at the time cobbled ,So set the scene Darkness, drizzle , yard lighting , and the wagons pulling out one by one dragging there loads into the night .(Awesome) At the time my uncle Neil Wright was the chief Engineer over the maintenance garage , and just a little later my Dad Norman Mulraney drove direct for BRS from this depot and yes i did have many happy trips away sleeping in the cab .Later as i left school and worked for a construction company i was involved in the construction of an extension to the maintenance shed furthering my presence at the depot.Sadly all has completely gone and of course i was to young to have recorded any of this on film.Dad went on to drive for Parkers of bolton and i also spent many a night in an AEC or Dodge Happy days.

Thank you for your kind message Dave .Doe’s anyone remember who operated a few Atkinsons all with forty foot trailers about 1970/73 from a small yard near Tom Ashtons Garage on Tonge Moor Road only a stones throw away from Thomas Harwoods Yard?
Great topic, is this.
The leicester depot of eastern BRS was on lutterworth rd, just outside of blaby. If you come off the M1 at J20 through lutterworth heading for leicester on the A426 you carry on through the dunton bassett lights back over the M1 and just after the countesthorpe turn on the left hand side is the dog and gun pub, there used to be a road at the side of the pub called dog and gun lane and on the left just after that was the Eastern BRS yard. Its now a large co op supermarket and housing estate, and they’ve shut off the top of dog and gun lane…
BRS Banbury was run out of Merton st next to the train station until they moved out to Wildmere ind est next to J11 of the M40,they used to do loads for AP.British Alcan,General Fooods and a lot of car parts out of Cowley. They closed the Banbury depot about 2004 when Exel lost the mars contract out of Bicester,I used to do agency out of Wildmere rd on the mars contract loading out of Bicester,Corby and Melton and loved every minute of it
hiya Liverpool depot was in Studholm st just off the dock rd Bootle end,not sure whats there now.I used to use Haddington depot on the A1south of Edinburgh and load electricity pylons, used to load paper out of Alva depot near Stirling.St,Helens depot was in sherdley rd,i think half of it is still there the rest is a traffic junction. cheers Ted
My father originally worked out of the depot in pontypool, then transfered to newport pulling timber out of the docks, use to love going with him when i was a kid,the workshop where they did the repairs is still there the last time i went past.
Happy days
