Hi Ivor, no she was born & raised here in Charlbury, tough Country girl  Dad was based not far from here for a short time during WW2, they met at a dance here in the Charlbury Village Hall, they got married towards the end of the War, Mum moved up to London to work & lived with Gran & Grandad in Stainsby Road, Poplar until Dad was de-mobbed. Dad went back to work for Abbott’s Haulage, Stainsby Road, Poplar whose yard was almost dead opposite their house, but they then decided they would have a nicer life in Charlbury so they moved back here, they were married for 57 years before Dad passed away & I’m the youngest of 5, so some people I think are meant to meet. PS My Gran & Grandad moved to London from Suffolk in about 1920, Grandad was on Horse & Cart & used to bring the produce from Suffolk to the Old Covent Garden for Abbott’s General Hauliers, Abbott’s had a Yard in Stainsby Road Poplar too so Grandad moved there & apart from his time in the Army during WW1 he worked for Abbott’s his whole life Retiring when he was 70. Regards Chris

Thank you Dai,

When I passed my test at the Bridgend depot , he gave me a lift back to Oxford depot as the other lad I shared my the works van with was staying another few days ,so I went to the canteen and asked the drivers ,this driver was going to Aylesbury that evening .

Does anyone recognize this depot?

Evening Jakey,
Next time i see Bill i will remind him of the lift you had.
He worked for John Raymonds for years and Argosy ,Coastal Roadways. His brother ran a few motors on Christie Tyler and a bit in the Abbey works in the 70,s.Trotman Transport and worked for Brs and set up on is own.His truck has been on the S Wales thread a erf and i remember his lorry got locked in Brains Haulage yard when they went belly up.
Here is another picture of E904 TBO,i am waiting to tip reels at B.Tissues Wrexham 6am tip.

Thank you Dai,

I did get a lift home in a Roatrain in the general haulage colour scheme as you photo and it did end in that reg number, but not of the full reg though , although I do know the curtains were pulled fully across the back windows and the cab was immaculate ,but I think he told me it was not his lorry .

TAG201 .

TAG201 and TAG 191 @ the Oxford depot.

Can anyone remember Eddie McCudden, who worked at BRS in Reading, from just after the war (1948?) until 1971, when he migrated to Australia? Eddie was my Father-in-law. In this role he was my professional and personal mentor, close friend, fierce enemy in various combinations at different times.
Ed was runner-up to Lorry Driver of the Year in 1962.
