hiya,
Just looking at my 2011 diary and adding bit’s and bob’s (wifes birthday and wedding anniversary) dare’nt miss those, just wondering does anyone know of any “red and rust” shows taking place this year, you know the location and the dates, like a boy scout “be prepared” is my motto well the truth is if it’s not written down and pinned to my forehead i would’nt remember anything bit like a goldfish really, anyway here’s hoping.
thanks harry long retired.

Just been thinking , I still can recall all the reg numbers and fleet numbers and I can tell you who drove what night or days and who looked after there motors , sad I KNOW  , but just cant forget , this was in the early 80s at Oxford depot .
A few names are Ivor parry ( union man and night trunker ) leyland roatrain A641SOU, then D88HFB R/T , then F995SOU R/T . also Fred Holiday , the late Bernard Woodward , the late Jock fulton , great days If only I could drive the roadtrain on a trunk route or a changeover .

Anybody got any pictures of BRS Bradford wagons?

Here is one for the ones who have books or remembers numbers, in our local paper was a photo of olden times, a BRS artic lorry loading up with a load of shoes for export in 1959, there was a number on the side of the lorry 4E979, it was a rope and sheet job about 4/5 feet above the cab, and they was not very big boxes, I would have thought they would be in cartons, they did have cartons in those years?, I had only been out of the army one year, that must have been a cow of a job to make it secure, what do you think Harry.

hiya,
There was loads of stuff in days of yore that took a bit of secureing one load i struggled with and always arrived with looking like the leaning Tower of Pisa was empty pallets no matter how much rope i put over them i always managed to make them lean to the nearside, in my case it was a case of too much wellie methinks, but us old red and rusters always delivered the goods did’nt we.

Like reinforcing mesh Harry,I always got a nearside lean with that, used to drive away from the gutter.Never lost any, well,I don’t think I did.

I once picked up two 30 ft odd lengths of re-mesh in Stoke and then ran into Ellesmere and plonked 20 ton of woodpulp on top and sheeted and roped," never move, that won’t!" when I got back to Milnthorpe the whole load was sat on the nearside chock! and the ends of the mesh were sticking through the sheet like spikes!! and I reckoned to be a steady sort of a driver!! Dennis.

hiya,
A bit disappointing that, “there was 75 footers as well”.we did’nt mess about with mickey mouse trailers, thanks very much nice to see the old stuff again.
thanks harry long retired.

heres a photo i took at lincoln steam fair, dont know if it is ex.genuineor where its from(i remember gateshead prefix was H.A.).
i was once told a story by an old transport manager in the south,he said at his depot if a north east driver came for a loadand you tried to give them something going in the wrong direction, they would just stand there and say HOME OR BEYOND so thats what you had to give them.
