Iconic Newcastle bridges there Larry. Went across them in my trucking days (also remember a very dodgy digs in Gateshead, just South of this bridge!) I think the building is now the Copthorne hotel - or it was some 10 years ago when my daughter was fancying Newcastle for Uni. We stopped there several times and went to a nearby restaurant from where we saw the teenagers heading for the nightclubs with next to nothing on in the freezing cold! She loved it! Luckily she eventually settled for Lancaster, which was a much shorter weekend commute!
John.
How about the Bridges of Barrow John ? Cheers Dennis.
BT tower Stokenchurch. It meant a long night ahead on the way out on scotch changeover and not long to go on the way back.
While the masts at Daventry could be soul destroying on the return run back to Feltham from Dewsbury with speed limiters.

Prisons are distinctive buildings that crop up occasionally. The old ones with high walls, small windows and big drive- through door appear in urban areas. I always try and see if it is a famous one. Like Strangeways, Wormwood Scrubs or Holloway. My favourite drive-by prison was Bedford but probably because of the building next door.
Hi Chris, prisons always seem to stick out in the back of my mind for some reason, I don’t know why.
Bedford was one but can you remind me of what was next door. Maidstone was another and was it Stoke on the A34 near the coach station.
One stretch of road that I always liked driving along was coming out of Bristol underneath The Clifton Suspension Bridge. I wonder if The Bubbleman has got a nice old photo of the place.
It’s perfectly true that there are lots of vehicles knocking about the Wigan area sporting stickers that read, NO PIES LEFT IN THIS VEHICLE OVERNIGHT . I came across the first one about 18 months ago and thought it quite amusing at the time.
Prior to these stickers appearing, the previous ones used to read, WE’RE FROM WIGAN US AND WE LIVE IN MUD HUTS., which would have been even funnier, were it not for the fact that it’s true.
As you are no doubt probably aware mushroomman, the old London Bridge, now situated on Lake Havasu, was purchased by the guy who owns the Mc Culloch chainsaw company. I presume his name is Mr. Mc Culloch. Now I was told this by a bloke down the pub, so it must be true.
As Mr. Wadsworth would say, " just a useless bit of info ".
Regards. Eddie.

I would say the Bridges of Barrow hardly compare with the Bridges of Madison County, Dennis. As you know, just the two - one to Barrow Island and another from there to Walney Island.
Here’s a pic of the ‘High Level’ bridge taken in the fifties soon after the shipyard hooter had gone off. Not wise to get in the way. I’m sure you and Eric went over it many times. By 1964 there was no tarmac left on the wooden planks which comprised the road surface and going across it on my scooter in the wet was a risk to life and limb it was so slippy! You could see straight down to the dock through the gaps in the planks. It was replaced in '64 or '65 as I remember. The next time I experienced anything like it was on the East German Autobahns in 1976, where the decking on some bridges often appeared to be old railway sleepers!

Nice one John, and yes have been over there many times both in the Octopus and cough! cough! er! in a number of Barrow based unlicensed shunters, Comets and Beavers Then when I went on my own I often had the odd crates which I’d picked up in London among other stuff for the area and Vickers Transport control office was along on the left hand side and one of the Dossers, sorry Wallahs would accompany you into the Yard to the shop where the crate was destined for ! Cheers Dennis.

The Tyne Bridge at night, Regards Larry.
I think my favourite landmark ever was Charles de Gaulle airport as you approached the runway and Concorde was going over the top
I don’t expect there’ll be many drivers who won’t recognise this landmark.

0The River Tyne in 1947 IIRC, Regards Larry.
Bit fuzzy here Larry. (Nothing to do with the White wine you understand!) I’ve driven over both the bridges shown in the 1947 photograph. Where was the one demolished and replaced in about 1967?

Aah Eddie!
I don’t know if it’s true, but you tell the story. I can’t see the ‘blaze’ across it in your photo.
John.
