Brewery Lorries

AEC Regent III - BCP671 - Webster’s ‘XL’:

Seen many years ago on the Flag Market in Preston with a side advert for Webster’s ‘XL’ beer.
The bus, with bodywork by Park Royal Vehicles, was new to Halifax Corporation in 1950 and is preserved as a historic vehicle.
When photographed, it was on a tour promoting Webster’s XL . The very nice people on board were giving visitors a free bottle
of the fine liquid. The single deck bus to the rear was a former Ribble Bristol RE, (HRN249G), which had been sold to Age Concern
for use as a publicity/information vehicle.
It was affectionately known in the local area as ‘the tea pot bus’ as it had a large picture of a tea pot on the off side - and a large
teapot inside the bus which provided a free cuppa to visitors.
The RE is also preserved and has recently been fully restored back to a bus, in Ribble livery, and now lives in the Liverpool area.

HRN249G - Former Ribble Motors Bristol RE:

As it is shown here as a TEApot bus, could I claim that that it is ok on this page - as it made brews ?:

Yes Geoff, This brew bus is most welcome here. There is nothing like " A nice cup of tea ".
I have a "City & Guilds Certificate " in brewing up  , Cheers, Ray.

Thanks for these great pictures. These Austrians must be serious boozers, judging by the
drawbar outfit in the first picture. Is " Pommac " a cider drink ?..French for apple ?
Cheers Eddie, Ray.

Hi Eddie, The Belhaven Scania brings back memories. From 1995, and for the next 17 years, me and the lads did many journeys
to Scotland, and if we could make it down to Crawford, we used to park up at the Crawford Arms Hotel and lorry park. Their main
beer was from Belhaven Brewery. I recall that from 1995, it cost £8.00 for lorry park and a 3 course evening meal, and as time went
on, it crept up to £10.00. It was usual to arrive at Crawford about 4.30 pm, and there was a chap there who asked " What time are
you away in the morning " and he would tell you to park in a particular lane, so that you were not blocked in at 5 a m the next morning.
He was a retired ex HGV driver with Forth Caledonian, and now he drove the local Mobile Library on 3 days a week. Fond memories.

Cheers, Ray.

1947 White Streamliner - Labatt Brewing Co:

Photgraph taken at a Coach Rally at Blackpool in the late 1980s.
The young lad posing in front of the truck is my son - he would have been about 9 years old then. He has grown a bit since!

The truck was one of several ‘Streamliners’ that Labbat’s produced in Canada. The bodywork was designed by Count Alexis De Sakhnoffsky,
a Russian-American designer who specialised in designing streamlined automobiles. It was in Europe promoting Labbat’s products.

If you didn’t already know it that trailer behind the Whitbread KM is an urban artic trailer on a dolly. Trunks from the depot, meets up with an artic unit that takes over to do the deliveries on the trailer while the Bedford delivers it’s load, then unit meets up and returns the trailer empty or with empties on to go back to the depot behind the KM and dolly ready for loading for the same again next trip.

Leyland Olympian - B126WNB - Greater Manchester PTE:

I was working in Manchester in 1987 when this Olympian was treated to an advert promoting an exhibition in Salford of some of L S Lowry’s work.
The advert was sponsored by Bass, who I think also sponsored the exhibition. Bass had office accommodation across the road from my office so I was able to pop out and take this photo of the bus which was on a private hire to take employees from the Bass office to the exhibition.

Geoff, Thank you for the " Bass Brewery Bus " picture. I bought this 13 tons G.V.W. Bedford TL from Bass Charrington
in 1989. When it arrived, it was still in the Red & Brown livery of Bass, and its bodywork was a " Linkliner " by Boalloy
of Congleton. I had the bodywork altered to curtainsided spec to suit my then long term work with Rank Hovis, and
had it painted in my then colours of white and Atlantic Blue. It had a Manchester reg. number, TVU 452X.
