I remember when i was young Colin Connolly drove for Leathers he parked his V8 mandator on Bull Royd Lane then 1 night this funny new motor was there a Scania 110 ■■?,i went to school with Miles Delaney who eventually ran Delaneys,Arthur Mitchells brother lived next door to me when i was a kid and a bloke opposite drove Arthur Mitchells Mercury, and the last 1 i can relate to is Cyril Whitley who was related to Henry Longs family, my dad ,my brother,my cousin and 2 uncles all worked for Cyril,i have some photos somewhere of a Bedford s type of Whitleys on a weekend scout run

thought of some more samas had an office in bradford.and what about marcus.i rememered some others but forgot them again

John tweedie drove a V8mandator at leathers ,later he bought 2 of them and ran them wiyh tipping trailers along with an 8 wheeler Geordie Jackson also worked there he drove an AECmercury NKW49H, we bought it from tillotsons when it was 12mounths old.Donald Ludlam also worked at leathers ,he said the v8 mandators were untouchable when they were runing right.

Hell yes ,those buildings have gone now ,wasnt it a mk111,i havent got a clue where it went.I always wondered if any of Longs survived , i heard a tale that there was an old Longs motor in a Quarry on the outskirts of Keighley i cant remember if it was silsden or somewhere around that area.I was down next door to Wilsons old place last year on Wakefield Rd and its full of vintage buses i think 1 had an outside staircase. The things you pass everyday and dont know they are there

My Dad John (jack) Sawyer drove for them! Also I worked with Tony’s son he had a yellow Renault.

YOUNGDAVE:
Re Crows as the crow flys it was actuall Crow Brothers Transport, originally from Greenside in Clayton then moved to Broom Street off Wakefield Road. They ran a fleet of Thames Traders, AEC 8 wheeler M and M’s (2) some of the Thames Traders were converted to twin steers, being primrose conversions approx 4 / 5. 4/5 six wheelers and the rest being 4 wheelers approx 14 motors in all this being mid 60’s period. Late 60’s early 70’s Ford D800’s Bedford Km’s AEC mark 5 tractor units, 2 Leyland Beavers, 1 Volvo F86. Work was usually wool, London, Liverpool and Hull. Work out of Magnate Joinery Keighley, Repton Foundry Bingley. In the very early days they also ran coaches and taxis out of Greenside, Clayton. The very early office was at the bottom of Listerhills Road next door to Lancaster and winters. I started work with Crows in 1964 and amongst the other drivers were George Fletcher, Tommy Parker, Tommy Davies, ■■■■ Turpin, Billy North, Lorry Morgan, Derek Lancaster, Keith Rastrick, Billy Crow, Keith Bell, John Sutcliffe, Clifford Burrows, Plastic Boots, (do you know him?) Tivvy (again name please) /Derek Butter (Iram), Plus my own brother Jack (Woody). Cant remember many moor, but brains cells deminishing.

Neil Maclelland (RES - Road European Services) was a bit of a card, I remember Ray Wilson from Leeds way and John Hurst working for him very late 80s - nice lads but John could be a bit firey
