It’s a fair bit bigger than his old (St Genis de Saintonge) gaf, I stopped there a few times around the time it opened expecting to see him but didn’t so thought it might have been just a rumour. I’m glad to hear it wasn’t.

Are we talking about the big one on the left of the N10 as you travel north? sometimes wrongly called the fish restaurant because of the old menu sign with a fish on it

I have never noticed the fish sign, it is on the left when traveling north right by Avenue Aliénor d’Aquitaine, 16300 Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire big parking that has been extended over the last few years, It was a Total Garage if I remember correctly.

Different place, I didn’t want it to be my restaurant
46.407026, 0.237288
Anyway it is 22km south of Poitiers and still the best restaurant within 22kms. Poitiers Arcotel takes some beating too.

are you on about the one with AS24 on it, on a bit of a hill you have to cross the dual carrageway
I have always known it as the fish restaraunt, but because of its name, forget what the sign says, but has something to do with fish.
good food for sure and the beat stopping place that end of the N10

That is the one. I couldn’t link to it but those are the coordinates for the Google map, not the prettiest place but gets bloody busy, many Spaniards use it. Saloon type doors for the toilets and 2 doors into the restaurant.
I have always known it as the fish restaurant too and have used it for over 20 years, open 24/7 iirc
Clauds “new place” is on what was one of the first bits of dual carriageway on the N10, 40 minutes north of the Cabbage patch.
imho better than anything further south until you reach Spain, but that said, go a bit off route and there is better

Always had good food and service there (Relais de Saintonge) hope it’s still going, it was getting affected by the weight limits last time I was there maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
Forest road stops were getting a bit dodgy loads of robberies and gassings
