Hi Mark,

What is left of Pickfords today? Have any of the companies the took over, like Hoults Bulens etc survived and are still trading in one form or another?

I heard Pickfords itself seems to be franchising or hiring self employed sub contractors a lot.

Carl

Came across this Pickfords Bedford specially built for the mail order contract they serviced in the early 80s…they ran around 10 of these out of Cardiff where they housed the contract …reason being that they were close to all the Christie Tyler factories producing the furnishings for the mail order companies.

Hi Carl,
I’m not sure what the deal was when SAVA/ North American Van Lines sold Pickfords to the guy who Owned Transeuro in London. …It looks like those companies that Pickfords acquired May not have been part of the deal when sold last…there were a lot of companies they took over…Hoults…Bullens…Pitt & Scott…further back Griff Fender…Stringfellows…and many more smaller well known companies…what would these names be worth today now they are no longer in operation…they have wiped out a lot of good company names over the years Carl…I know a little about the Nationalisation years after the war but not a hudge amount.

Regards Mark

Great photos John  , I now had “ginga’s” Sprinter decaled up ,will post some photos later.

Gone a bit slack for my liking ! I subbed out on a 3000ft office job last Monday/Tuesday, Witney to Middleton , 3 men ■■? errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ,bloody crankey to put three men knowing most items need three men ,any how we did it ,although the other driver was racing about a bit ,night out in Lym as we ran in to traffic and could not make where I wanted to go.

Drove a DAF drawbar with out the drawbar so plenty of horses ,No radio and the night heater was crap ,o/s tyre was getting low but legal !!! “just” ,my question to the traffic manager was ,when was it last inspected ? why? when was it last inspected ? its due this week !!!1 :open_mouth: when was it last inspected ? 12 weeks ago !!! :open_mouth: why 12 weeks? that’s how long are intervals are ! on a 2007 plate rough DAF that is on Europe work ? yes ,Not good enough was my last word to him, my MAN is every ten weeks and the others every six weeks and they are looked after !!!.

Any how with me it never went over 52 as I ws on a hourly rate.
