Two old photos from Archers Northallerton who I think are still going.

Here are some old and recent from Goodwins

Here’s a phot from Caranbury’s

Unfortunatly I have been unable to post a group photo of four of their vehicles as there appears to be a problem with Trucknet site

Here is a photo of a Bedfrd Marsden from about 1979 from Hills Removals Leeds followed by a more modern boxvan. I have a photo of another more modern Bedford Marsden (about 8 years younger) but cannot attach it at the moment. I don’t know what has gone wrong with Trucknet but it just wont take some photos.

However obviously Hills had been a Marsden customer of old and its sad that so many like them choose to replace with boring boxvans obviously to cut costs.

The second will not load saying The photo you wish to load is invalid so here is the first and I will try the second & third separatly

I cannot understand why some photos won’t load. They are just normal photos taken the same way as the ones that do load.

I would appreciate if anyone can advise me of what is wrong.

Anyway I’ve found another photos of Hills so here goes lets see if it will load.

Having cut my teeth in removals lookin at thei thread brings back memorys… Those robisons lorrys really are bags of ■■■… Its hard to believe some of them are a few years old and already in that condition. I use to work for them in the southampton depo . They had a great bunch of lads there but the manager was a compelte ■■■. Im now very happy im well away from it. Also use to work or a small family firm in eastliegh.they were good to work for but more like mates so when it hit the fan all hell broke lose. Happy i left there too as still friends with them. Keep up the photos and story. Have a few of my own to tell but eill leave that for a rainy day

Hi Acceptme, great to know your called in to say hello , post your stories buddy , i do know the Abingdon manager I bet you do too ? And yes there trucks are the pits .

I prob do ye but now been 4yrs since I did removals. One story that does stand out is we were sent to London to do an export move. Coming up from soton we obviously got caught in traffic so were delayed. Upon arrival the lady answered the door and said straight away “you people are late” now I wasn’t in a good mood so responded with “who do you think you talking too. And who are you people” she once again pointed at me and said you people. So I responded told her we all came out of the same bloody hole and who does she think she is talking too and promptly walked off. She was fuming and a quick call to the dell was made and me been told not to get of the back of the wagon. A few hours later she came out and accused us of something so I totally lost me rag with her closed the lorry doors and drove off with half her kit in the back. Needless to say I wasn’t in the good books but got put on international soon after so can’t complain. Have plenty more story’s which are the good sides of the job.

Pickfords careful movers eh when i first started it was pickfords the gentle giants.a depot in all large towns,
when i started there were 170 depots some only having one van,Pickfords said that each van should be staffed by 1.2 men.
we had many members of staff who only did the work of .2 of a man.

Two photos from Swift.

here are two photos from Palmer & sons Nuneaton

Hi Carl , I have never seen Taylors of Reading ,and are they still using a tk ■■?

hi jakey

Reading on their website it wuld appear they are now running Volvos unless they have some new vans. They say they specialise on Library removals which i suppose is a good niche market, particularly if they do it on a national basis, although nothing that a good established removal contactor could easily do.

We did many removals including the Department of National Savings where accurate filing location was essential, and in that occasion the magnitude would take up many, many libraries, and it is always easily organised particulaly if you use female staff who are experienced in filing

Carl

Thanks Carl , never ever seen them,we do lots of moves in Wallingford which is not far from Reading and have never had to quote against them as far as I know .

That picture of the volvo in a drive way , that looks very tight and he would of done some damage to the vehichle getting in with those bushes etc .
