A couple of points, the title of this thread is misleading. The van driver is not blocking ‘merging’ traffic. He is blocking a completely clear lane. Which brings me to my second pount, why is it clear? Was there a red X on a gantry prior to this? Though all those that state it’s not vannies job to police it are right. And if there was a red X, he too is infringing.
Also, the article is wrong. It states ‘motorway’ traffic. The roadsign to the left is green, therefore an A road.

Merge in turn…how hard can it be?
Some drivers prefer their own ideas.
I personally don’t block lanes, I much prefer to be very British and merely seethe and shake my head at perceived queue jumpers. Having said that, if someone behind me does it I’m extra happy as I can relax, stop tailgating and travel more quickly past the obstruction.
I think we used to call them SARP = Self Appointed Road Police
Yay! It’s ROG! If I may remind everyone since the last time I reminded everyone, or perhaps inform someone new:- post no. 6 on this thread has it all in excellent simplicity:- trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewto … ng#p844602

It can be very very hard!!!
You set there for ages watching vehicles fly past you, you leave a gap but no one takes it, your getting close to where the lane is shut off and you see vehicles ignoring gaps where they could fit in just to jump a vehicle or two ahead
I tell you what bugs me. I believe it is the M11 there is an upward gradient so they put restrictions on hgvs using the right hand lane during rush hour.
Does not stop hgvs using the right hand lane though because they can not stand being behind a slower HGV.
Pretty sure there are ANPR cameras in place as well.
Also its only for like 2 miles lol.

The choice of using the M11 v A10 or A1 means they’ve already lost the plot.

I’m going to take it your a fan of a traffic light or a roundabout then.
Another thing of merging in turn that annoys me the concept is good if done properly but…
All Cars should merge correctly they should merge I’m heavy traffic at pretty much the first cone then each take turn by one by
Bur you get idiots who merge in 20meters and some 15 other at the very first cone this is what messes it up
And if I decide to use the merge in turn only like 5 cars go past me when I thought it was supposed me me then you …

Because as I’ve seen countless times as soon as people see there’s an advisory of a lane closure indicating what lanes are closed they’ll move into the lanes that are open even though the lane is actually not closed and the signs are just warning of it. And that’s not the yellow 800-600-400-200 yard marker signs I’m referring to but overhead matrices where they put an arrow pointing left or right (which is advisory only) and which can be put up sometimes 2 miles before the actual merge point. Had it on the A1M one Friday night. Joined onto the A1M northbound from M62 at Ferrybridge. Lanes 1 and 2 weren’t actually closed until after J42 a few miles up the road but because the signs on the A1M said it was closing ahead everyone had got into the outside lane before J41. So I just bimbled along on the limiter in L1 with nothing in front of me or anything sat in L2 going past must be hundreds of vehicles queueing stationary in L3 with two open lanes to their left. And when I got to the yellow signs I slowed down and moved over into L2 which was still empty and proceeded to carry on going past now slow moving vehicles until I got to the 200 yard point where I slowed right down, stuck my right indicator on and waited for a gap to open up which it did. Saved well over half an hour, didn’t need to force my way in.
Another time I had it was on the M25 approaching QE bridge. Everyone over to L3/4 well over a mile before the actual lane closure signs. So I just bimbled down the open L1 and when I got near the red X moved over into the empty L2 then when I got near the red X for that moved over into L3.
Same on M1 Junction 18 northbound approaching lane closures from J19. Everyone over to the lane that was going to remain open a mile before the actual closure. Bimbled down the still open lane along with a few other night trunkers who also had functioning brains.
You should try it.

It’s like everything else that happens on the road, private car drivers ain’t doing it as a profession,.where as you and me are…and there lies the difference.
They are going from A to B as fast as they can, they probably dont’ even notice you and me let alone show any consideration.,
That just personifies modern society though innit.
In another life I was made to go on an anger management course, so I find myself today after all those years adapting techniques what I was taught back then from getting into bother as a young lad, to driving, and it’s great, it works.
There are still a couple of things that happen on the road where I want to gouge out some ■■■■’s eyes, but on the whole not much phases me these days.
So nowadays whatever tf car drivers do that ain’t done in a ‘‘pofessional manner’’ (and why would it be for the reasons I’ve pointed out) don’t ■■■■ me off as much as it used to, it just mildly irritates me, if they want to risk getting their Audi written off by forcing themselves in front of me in a queue, it ain’t gonna cost ME anything…maybe I’d just let em in anyway, I’m never in a rush unless it’s Saturday on way home that is. ,.rest of week…it gets there when it gets there.
So I’ll call them a ‘‘■■■■’’ under my breath, (or out loud depending on how bad the ‘‘offence’’ was ) and crack on safe in the knowledge I’m a more considerate driver.
I don’t do this blocking in/keeping out/tailgating/getting revenge b.s as I once did as a young driver
…, I just raise above it safe in the knowledge that I’m a pro and they are just sh drivers…,.and probably always will be.
It also makes for a more stress free day/working life, and staves off heart attacks.
Case closed.

You may be right, but my point is there is not enough information in the clip to make that assertion. I’ve seen a mile or so, of red ‘X’ closed lanes. If this was the case, any bimbling in it, would be an offence and boil the ■■■■ of a SARP.

Just enjoy it.
Unless it’s the other way and they’re closing the outside lane ahead which we obviously can’t use.

If I told you, you’d think I was some sort of spaced out hippy :
It’s all about breathing properly, positive thinking, turning negative situations into positives, and trying to see situations differently in a positive light
Well you did ask …,.and it’s far better than punching somebody’s lights out.
It works for me anyway in all sorts of scenarios.
