I regularly block the road at one drop (quiet residential area). Most people either turn round or wait. As I deliver glass, we’re supposed to carry it the least distance possible in a public area. Suits me
Drive a bin lorry, you can block a road for 20 mins as long as someone is working
Pour a cup of water under the radiator and tell them you broke down
Let your tyre down

Sir, that one has been used and abused
One of our shops in Melton is fun park in the bus stops as the delivery “shutter” is between 2 shelters.
We get 3 sometimes 4 tickets a week the traffic wasps know what days and times we go and are waiting writing the ticket as we drive down the road as we stop its on the windscreen before ive even turned the engine off barstewards lol…
Dan Punchard:
Going slightly of topic but if you park across an entrance you have to move to let someone out ,however I don’t believe you have to move to let someone in as long as your not illegally parked ,we tested this with a late paying customer !
There was a law change not long back you can be ticketed anywhere you park next to a dropped kerb, even if it’s your own driveway.

From a legal point of view if you are still in the vehicle and the engine is running it is not technically parked.
Just in case you doubt this:
Parking in front of drop kerbs has been against the rules in London since Section 14 of the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2003 came into force.
“Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 repeals section 14 and gives all local authorities in England with civil parking enforcement powers the ability to take action when a vehicle is parked alongside a dropped kerb in a Special Enforcement Area (that is, an area where parking is, in all other instances, permitted).”

On what (legal) basis do you make that assertion? As far as I know, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (which is the legislation that empowers local authorities to impose traffic regulation etc orders) only uses the term “waiting” - which can be done with the driver in his seat and/or the engine running.

Not sure what you’re getting at, are you saying it’s legally valid to ticket like that?
I read a post on Sheffield forum (I think) a short while ago that a car had stopped to let a passenger out of the vehicle and was ticketed. He said he was not parked and contested the ticket. At court it was deemed that for the passenger to alight the vehicle safely, the said vehicle must have been parked. The ticket was enforced.

Had a similar situation in london too, used my brain and parked with 2 wheels on the pavement, otherwise the road would have been blocked, i got a ticket for parking on the pavement…just cant win, i even had to pay the ticket myself.[zb] that… They put the deliveries on us, they must know that certain jobs at certain places run the risk of a parking ticket, if they don’t like it, don’t accept the delivery
I regularly deliver to the Grosvenor Hotel next to Victoria Station. Usually well over a tonne, and it all has to be handballed or sack trucked in. For every delivery that goes into that hotel (not exactly a small family run B&B) and into the various places in the station, there are 2 bay spaces.
With a 20 minute limit on them. The Bidvest and 3663 boys use them to take their 45’s, sit on the pavement chain smoking and and drinking Costas, as they know the wardens don’t kick off in anger until 7am.
Ticket every single time. Just leave it in the bus lane now. Told my guvnor that if he ever even attempts to bill me for it, next time it’s on my run, I’ll just throw a sickie. There’s no way on God’s earth I’m working a full day in that crap hole to go home paying for the privilege.
Agree with Nove, the Bidvest lot don’t give a hoot where they park. If I have a break on a bay it’s whilst unloading. The 20 minute times are unrealistic, they seem to come from a time when food deliveries were done with smaller vehicles and smaller deliveries or an more regular basis. We do a two tonne handball every Tuesday with a 20 minute wait on the bay, yet we pass the customer on a Thursday. So why not split it and do a tonne each day? I’ve never done the delivery in 20 minutes (25) but I’ve told them if I get a ticket I wont pay for it.
Bidvest/3363/FreshDirect/Fairfax etc tend to be mindless knobs in the main.
If I had a quid for every time one had parked so close behind me that let alone be able to drag a pallet off my tail lift, I often can’t even lift the ■■■■ thing because their front bumper is overhanging it.
Then they’ll have the cheek to ask you how long you’re going to be.
