Rotherhithe tunnel is 33’ max length but only width is now about 7’6 with barriers. So it’s pretty impossible to get through it now.

didnt the old blackwall use to be two way traffic? before the new southbound link was built

dafdave The first time I went thro Rotherhithe I was driving a 4 wheel Albion for BRS. I was loaded with chipboard that made me 8` wide. A Leyland coming North had dogs & chains. We scraped & I came out the other side with all my ropes cut.
Wheel Nut Yes it was two way. We used to take turns of giving way to each other on the bends. Quite safe really.( Its possible they installed traffic lights later )

Should`nt have been going thro it then Dave & that was 1975

We go through the space cabs are 13.4 so not to bead but when i had a pod we would lower the suspension, a bit scary the first time and very bumpy but quick

I have just seen this story on a bike forum I use.

Seems a bit like an urban myth at moment. Anyone any idea?

There are now small undetectable specs cameras (average speed detection cameras) sited in both the north and south bore of the Blackwall tunnel. Apparently they are going live today. The speed limit for the tunnels are 30mph northbound and 40mph southbound. It would appear that it is TFL that have implemented it. Any offences for speeding through the tunnel would be raising funds of £100 per offence or £50 if paid promptly. They have not installed signs warning drivers of this speed trap and therfore would not be looking to hit drivers with a licence endorsement, just take the money from you.
