If you do choose Willenhall (definitely not my personal first choice area though), make sure you don’t refer to it as being part of Birmingham (though there is no dividing line ), locals say they live in the ‘Black Country’ (something to be proud of, I gather ).
Have you considered the east side? - gives you more access to the ‘golden triangle’ for work.
Yeah, east side of Brum is where I’d like to be as it would give me access to Kingsbury, Coventry, Coleshill. It might be too far away to commute to Rugby though, unless I wanted to tramp which I’m on very keen on doing. Would idealy want to be half an hour away from my work place.
Where is that golden triangle exactly by the way.
As far as I am aware it’s around Rugby, am I right?

Is pay lower than in the south.

I to live in Thurrock…Fxxxc place.So I share your feelings…I no Widnes is not the area you mentioned… But lot of work ADR plus general coming out of that…plus 15mls…Rent is cheap…Lorry driving fraternity friendly lot and a few cockneys live in the location…
I"ve been thinking about Witness, not far away from Liverpool and Chester and there is the biggest refinery in the country AFAIK, but when you look for jobs on the net there are not many jobs advertised there, and if they are pay is usually much lower than in the south.

you could do worse than go to live in Irlam/Cadishead equidistant for the m60 and m6 15 mins from trafford park and for warrington (birchwood ) also have northbank on your doorstep plenty of ADR work there nicley situated on the edge of chatmoss so not to built up 12mins by train to city center lots of job oppertunitys for the doris in the trafford center
I really like Birmingham as a visitor. Not sure about living in it though. Some of the posh flats are nice but you got some well dodgy areas surrounding the inner city. Handsworth and Lozelles are about as desperate as it gets in the UK.
Sutton is one of the better places though and commutable to a lot of places. Night life ain’t too bad either, been out a few times over there.

Yes, this might an option, the one thing stopping me from moving there would be that Liverpool feels a little depressing it I am to be honest, and the same could be with Widnes considering it is purely chemical industrial town.
Took a look at Wikipedia and what has to say about Widnes and it’s not very pleasant.
I’d echo what another poster suggested re: the Irlam/Cardishead area as a decent place to look at. Plenty of jobs going between the Warrington and Trafford Park areas your local to & not even that far from Runcorn/Widnes for a commute plus right on the doorstep of the new Port of Salford development.
Don’t listen to the southerners, plenty of decent paying jobs and you certainly don’t have to work for peanuts & you get more for your dosh anyway.

I’ve only been to bournville and have driven along the a441 corridor and I have to say it looks nice and not too expensive there, unfortunately no jobs for lorry drivers there, hence I’m looking into north east side of Brum closer to Sutton Coldfield

Your a driver,surely youv visited (with respect )most areas of the UK…its a balance…I would like to live in Cornwall… But there’s only 2 outfits run from there…prob pay and treat you like shxxx…And those that do work for them go out AM Monday rtn Sat AM…45 hrs in a beautiful environment… Go for Rugby…got cheapish rent plus Northampton, Coventry Leicester 30 min drive and sum good fishing lakes and rivers
Don’t forget South Manchester, 2 half decent sized estates and then you have the major one, the cargo center at the airport, with a hugh DHL wharehouse, and another warehouse almost comlete.
Plenty of driving jobs in south manchester, and Wythenshawe isn’t a bad place to live.
I used to have to work in Birmingham now and again in a previous job and I hated the place. It’s a big, dirty ghetto. I would never, ever want to live there. I used to drive for miles and just see ran down areas. The shopping in the centre is the only half decent thing
Buying and renting Property seems very cheap compared to London where i am now, seems to be as cheap as many places up north yet is only an hour from the smoke.
Is there enough work down there as you have the ports etc as well as the regular delivery stuff you would have around any half decent town■■?

Never been to the centre of Birmingham, so can’t comment really, only have driven through the south part, well A441 to be exact towards the cadbury factory and I thought it looked nice, considering prices of rental or for sale properties there.
Bournville itself looked leasant.
