Big scary bridge, better call the cops

Chas:
It’s just a thought . . . but don’t Trolls live underneath bridges?

So which bridge do you think Curryfart lives under? :grimacing:

Friarton bridge scares the ■■■■ out of me. Especially empty coming back from south from Dundee. Have been known to take the ‘scenic’ route through Perth! I just don’t think the sides would stop me going for a swim.

…and all you chaps who are also scared of bridges…oh pleeezzze…

Show me a man who claims he has no fears and I shall show you a liar.

You’re welcome to quiz me on this…I actually don’t fear the things that others mostly do.
I can include,for example: Death,dead bodies/body parts,blood,needles,dentist etc.

OK maybe I fear my woman when she’s in a rage![and it’s my fault!]

Why didn’t the law just turn him off the carriageway and point him towards London? He’s got the Woolwich Ferry or the Blackwall Tunnel before he would have to face the peril of Tower Bridge!

The only bridge I know of that induces butterflies is the Tay, and only then when it’s a bit breezy.

Once had a missus scared of bridges.
Took her to Wales once. Told her I was taking the scenic route. As she didn’t drive, she didn’t realise.
But I soon regretted it.
She screamed non stop for the entire length of the Severn bridge. I don’t think she breathed in at all.
My ears bled.

Presumably most vehicles with four or more wheels would go through those bridge rails like a knife through butter at the legal limit… or would they? It’s suprising accidents don’t happen on bridges more often. Maybe everyone drives a bit more carefully

The Tamar is a bit dodgy, quite a drop

The bridge doesn’t scare me just the drop from it.

Im not a lover of bridges but in a lorry you can see a lot more over the side of one, escpecially in a left ■■■■■■ and vice versa in europe for us so would probably be more concerned if in that situation.

In my car i can usually not see anything apart from the horizon as if i could see off the bridge my car was probably heading bonnet first into the water.

Now i dont know how those barriers are tested but I have always looked at them alarmingly in my car…would it stop me■■? let alone when Im driving a truck :open_mouth:

I think given the Dartford crossing he probably did the safest thing but as the last exit is just before the toll booths perhaps that might have been a better alternative and turn around, although when panic sets in who knows what your likely to do

Chas:
I sort of have that ‘gephyrophobia’ thing. Going over a big bridge is probably the only time I have both hands on the wheel.

Especially if it’s a flyover type bridge with a bend.

You would love that catastrophe at Gallow Corner in Essex then

I dont like bridges myself however i cross the Tamar Bridge every day . I often walk over it too , it doesnt worry me because its " my bridge " , however i dont like the Avonmouth Bridge on the M5 , i dont go on the inside lane whilst crossing that one , this fear is real and i have sympathy for anyone who experiences it.

If you really want a scary bridge, try taking a narrow boat over the Pontcysyllte canal bridge.

AWESOME! :sunglasses: where’s the skier? :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Thats Epic :sunglasses:

When Telford drew up the plans for that aquaduct he showed them to various rich, potential backers, one of whom said:

“I have heard the expression ‘castles in the air’ before, but this is the first time anyone has shown me the actual plans.”

One of the good points to our jobs is the scenery, rather than the walls of a factory etc. and some outstanding views are from bridges, don’t miss out have a look the world is a pretty place from high up :grimacing: I love bridges me :grimacing:

It’s a quote from my cadet leadership course too long ago, don’t remember who said it first.
So you really have never had any kind of fear, never an arse clenching moment? No phobias? Doesn’t necessarily have to be the ‘normal’ phobias, some people are afraid of coat hangers. I’m personally scared of heights and sharp spinny things but it’s having fear that stops me standing too close to the edge of a cliff and makes me treat the grinder with more respect than I would a hammer. Thus keeping me alive
(Please don’t read this like an attack or anything just taking up your invite  )

We did the Oresund bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo a couple of years ago. That was scary in my RHD car!
Don’t think I’ll try the Milau!

you wouldnt want to be going over the Millau bridge, having gone over it myself half a dozen times or more i can say Dartford bridge isnt worth mentioning in comparison

Millau-Viaduct.jpg

I forgot about the Oresund, my favourite, cos it goes to Sweden. Abit hairy when its windy, great views, and the biggest wind turbine farm ive seen

worth the price in my opinion (cos its not me thats paying the bill)

It’s generally a good idea to avoid going near a spinning aircraft prop, and yes,i’ve been too close to a few in the past…
Having been a long-time skydiver…fears have turned into simple reality checks…i’m a lot
more rational as a result.
