On a serious note, I am actually currently planning an overland trip from Bristol to Bangkok. I’m trying to convince my boss to sponsor and help fund the trip for macmillan cancer research. It’s a dream I’ve had for many years and i’m determined to fulfill my dream.
The most direct route is about 8500 miles but takes in Iran and Pakistan. The other route is Russia and then head south, but finding roads through China is tricky. That route will be 10000 miles plus.
Anyone fancy coming on a road trip? Thought about doing it top gear style and buying a £1500 4x4 and driving it.
There is a bus service that runs overland from the UK to Australia or go via Dragoman, they go around the world in converted trucks to a bus.
If you want to scroll thru this lot it will probably show you the route to Thailand?
debate to your hearts content but leave me out since I discovered what airports are for
You would love it harry. Lol
I was offered a job many moons ago with a company based Andover way doing overland holidays from London to Singapore. The boss told me to get 6 months travelling experience around Asia and then come back and the job was mine. So off I went to Thailand and got married a week later then didn’t come back for 2 years haha. 14 years this year and we’re still happily married but needless to say I didn’t start the job.
Thanks for the link, going to have a read through.
So if you were going on this trip and you had to take 2 members from here who would they be and why?
Anne & Noi, because they are Thai & beautiful & agree with everything I say. Won’t put their snaps on here because one is related to a Bangkok police colonel who carries a 9mm Beretta all the time.except meal times at home where he lays it on the table, pointing towards me.
(tonight is my bridge night,btw, BBC 4 -9 O’clock)
You could try the route the “Sellers” take. Drive down to southern Turkey, ferry across to Egypt, drive across Egypt then another ferry to Saudi. drive across Saudi, enter the UAE or Oman. From there get a ferry across to India. Then drive across India, not sure if you are allowed into Myanmar (Burma), if not then another ferry to Thailand. Simples!!
As for who to take, well, the Tobemeister would have to go just for pure entertainment value!! Good luck if you do it, sounds like a real adventure!.
Boss just rang, asked if i could tip a load from Luton to Brisbane and Perth in Australia.
Will i be back by Christmas 2015 boss?

You’ll be back just after lunch.
Well little Sid the kid with the twitchy eye goes to school with our Frank and he’s from Wollongong near Sydney and he goes home for lunch every day
I would take Toby as well because he knows where all the good mayors daughters live, but he would have to leave the bike at home.
Amazingly I posted on facebook about this trip and I’ve had a few people phone me offering ideas and support and possible leads for a charity sponsorship. So for now it’s a dream, but who knows this time next year I could be on my way to Thailand.
gettin-on:
Wheres next weeks adventure ■■First uk truck to beijing
The thread was amusing but I can see where Switch is coming from. It did also bring back memories of the trailers full of shotgun bullets which was welcome.
I’m off to the moon next week with 26 tonnes of Baluga, any pointers?
