Being nice to truckers

Wheel Nut:
I try to be nice to everyone on the roads, but, anyone who is driving aggressively or expecting me to move for him or let him in or out will stay put :stuck_out_tongue:

I also hate these doddering do gooders who will stop suddenly with no warning to wave a car out of a driveway, or even stop on the motorway to let someone join (honestly)

Like the person who jammed on in front of my fully loaded 7.5 tonner last week on the M42southbound split (where the new link to the M6 goes off) to let somebody in in front of him. I could only pull out round him which then put me in the wrong lane and facing a 16 mile detour unless I could get back. Did it (just…)

Not impressed with that bit of driving.

I agree with your thoughts WheelNut thats my style as well.

Calv

I always let trucks out when I can do safely. I have been told off for it by a friend who has said that it is dangerous to signal them or hold up the road…

Some drivers organisation train their driver slike it…

Hmm…

you are not supposed to inconvenience other road users though!

So Reginald and Maude in his Rover 200 with fluffy knitted cushions in the window, stopping to let Farmer Giles out of his gateway without knowing what is behind him might be wrong :bulb:

I do it when it is safe to do so.

There are a lot of times when drivers of large vehicles just push their way out. I’ve not yet managed to get this bit fine tuned yet so getting across london is always going to be slow :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I always where possible let other road users out  .

Having just about completed two years class 1, i can remember my first regular run (Thursday - Trafford Park to Luton Airport. My boss said, that if I wanted to take one of the kids (aged 16 and 19 I could do. It just so happens that inlaws (grandparents) live in Coventry so having dropped the eldest (girl) off on the weekend the arrangement was on the Thursday I’d pick her up and bring her back in the artic. To cut a long story short, she kept count of all the lorry drivers who I over took had the courtesy to flash when cleared, and she made sure I flashed when I was overtaken.

And whenever I am in a car, and I ge the opportunity, yes I’ll let the lorry in coz I’ve been there and struggled to get out at times.

Life’s to short to get stressed, go with the flow and chill !

There’s a fine line between making progress & being courteous. You can’t let everyone out, or you’d never get anywhere. I tend to let commercial drivers out if am stopped or at walking speed, if i’m moving at a reasonable speed, i keep going. This seems to work quite well.

You should be very careful "signaling " to drivers to take advantage of your good nature. Just hold back, but let them make their own mind up as indeed you were taught to do for your test.
If you signal someone to turn accross the front of you, do you remember EVERY time to check the nearside mirror first for motorbikes & cyclist? Not everytime i dare say. What happens the day you forget & there was one who now collides with the turning vehicle. Who’s fault is the other driver going to say it was?

DO NOT brake on a motorway to let stuff in off the slip road, even just a moderate braking in this fashion will cause traffic a mile or so behind you to come to a complete standtill. The “Domino” effect. If you can’t get move out due to other traffic, let the joiners give way or go along the hard shoulder.

I live on a busy trunk route (single carriageway) it never ceases to amaze me, when waiting for a line of oncoming traffic to finish before turning right into my driveway in my car, the number of times the last or penultimate car will flash & brake to allow me go, when there is a completely empty road behind them :exclamation: :exclamation: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
