In a yard at Westbury, Wilts. Some kind of Emergency Services vehicle. There is a Foden cab in the background.
They where good workhorses we had 2 7.5 tonners at JA WILKINSON double shifted a lot of the time we had demountable box bodies delivering chickens during the day london markets at night
I had a KM flatbed, on an S reg, not the most manouverable thing in a tight spot. It had a 2spd rear axle so used to go well enough. At the time I was working out of Sarsons Vinegar on Tower Bridge Road doing runs around the south coast, out and back every day, so it was worked hard. The only drawbacks were the crap brakes (wedge?) and the hunched driving position, made even worse by jumping onto the roof off the top of the load, although a well aimed uppercut from behind the wheel cured that problem
hello mate, passed my test in 75 in a G-reg Km . then drove them for a year delivering bottled milk all over london with a 28ft single axle trailer, ideal motor for getting in/out of milk float depots which were built for horse and carts !! the 2 speed axle also helped in the london traffic.
Found this old bedford in egypt, from the 80`s. LHD, very low mileage, and no rot at all, pity they couldnt be exported.
My dad before he went up market and got a TK, and after when the firm started buying new motors this was the 3rd one, the first and second were B regs, one 6 cylinder and one 4 cylinder as this one was, I can remember the 4 cylinders being a right load of rubbish always breaking injector pipes and being gutless
Theres not many Bedford KMs around nowadays , as most of them were exported to Malta and Cyprus for a
second working life` .
This KM was photographed at the recent Thirsk Truck Gathering.
Before anyone asks ,…its an electric pylon in the background ,and not a flimsy
spec. lift` .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
I think " ■■■■■■■■ Gill " was spotted attempting to drive this Bedford TK at the recent
■■■■■■■ Steam Gathering.
Good try , lad ,…but your feet must be able to reach the foot pedals .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
