Would have pulled a 12 ton payload (and some)when at work
As I probably already mentioned, I remember the 6V 53 engine on coaches, rated at 170 bhp. It pulled hard, was it enough to maintain a 30-tonner at a reasonable cruising speed in the 1970s? Powerful, but in the revs.

We had 6-53s running at 36~38 ton, not necessarily on time sensitive work and your left arm never lacked exercise. The opposition were offering similar horsepower, ■■■■■■■ 185 and VT190, Mercedes 1418 at 180 hp etc, etc. Different times, a ■■■■■■■ NH 250 was a big engine, nowadays even the garbage truck has at least 250hp.
If you had a B model ,Thermodyne Mack with 237 hp, you were king of the road, in a big truck.
I’ve got no idea what this dude is saying, but there are some interesting, period pictures.

Nah, that’s on demolition work in Melbourne, it won’t need a service even, for twenty years.
Dad/Grandfather’s Bedford S type battling climate change. I would have been a bit P’ed off standing by the pub with that bow wave. Taken in South Essex nr Woodham Ferrers in the very late 50s (I guess). I don’t think the tipper was as well like as the BMC FF or the Dodge 300 LAD. Apparently it was a continuous battle to keep the gearbox bolted to the bell housing.

And that would be before it was loaded. Those two strokes weren’t called bird scarers for no reason.
Star down under.:

Would that be a 2 stroke up over?

I’m not touching that one.
I didn’t know Marmeth, of Nantua (dept 01) did run Bedfords! Interesting. Back in the '50s, they had Willèmes, and one of them is displayed at the entrance of their premises.
What about this one, found a minute ago on one of my usual French forums? It’s said it’s Bedford, but who will say more about it? Thanks!
