Saviem:
Evening all, Dennis, Larry, true story… a good few years ago, an old coal merchant was selling his business in Wednesfield near Wolverhampton. Now he had a Guy Otter tipper, that I really “fancied”. But as so often happens we were miles apart on price!
So to part, amicably, I bought, (at my price), a whole bundle of shovels…so many, and of such enormous size…that they are, (Istill have them, 20 years on),unusable…those old boys had real muscles!!!
And when I went back for a second go at buying the Otter…he had sold it!!!
So…If you really want something, then give the man his price!
Cheerio for now.
Saviem, you’ve got my brain ticking now, was it Tolley’s on the lights at Heath town ?

'Elf and Safety would ban No10 shovels like that nowadays, but as you say “Saviem” it would be very difficult to find anyone to-day who could/would use one.I sincerely hope you don’t make your employees use one in the Grain Store, thats what your BOB CAT is for Cheers Dennis.
I remember Bartrums of Diss had a fleet of S types and I wondered what they were like because unlike the Mk 3 Mandator my dad drove they looked cramped and difficult to get in and out of. I worked for Garnham’s the wood merchant for 3 months before my apprenticeship and we were carting steel for BICC putting up the pylon line between Ipswich and Norwich with an AEC Matador and had a go in an S type and loved it. It felt like a car once you were in and for a 4 wheel drive (does this make it an R type?) it drove just like a Bedford van.
I’d forgive you anything, Larry. Especially if you save me one or two of those malts!
My step-daughter presented me with a bottle of 12-year old Jura for my birthday which I am struggling manfully to make last until next weekend. If you intend to make a habit of holidaying in my home county I may arrange to meet up with you providing you have a reasonable supply of highland spirit with you.
Apart from the Bedfords I drove in the REME, my first bedford I drove was on Corona, I remember the wipers packing up, and we tied string each side and the lorry boy pulled it one way and me the other so we could see in the rain, that was in 1958, in the late 60’s I told many bedfords & Dodges up to Scotland with trade plates, it was a joy to travel through the highlands.
