I like the bit about the BRS log sheets in the air cleaner canister,I used to fold mine up and chuck 'em on the fire at home - or onto the Burton by- pass,God knows there were plenty of 'em,even in one day.

The BRS Big Js fitted with ■■■■■■■ 205 were a bit of a pig to start in cold weather, especially after standing out all night in a lay-by when on a dodgy!
The trick was to take the air filter element out of it’s canister (handily situated at the rear of the cab) and fill the cannister with BRS log sheets. I used to crank the starter and watch as bits of burnt paper fled out of the front-mounted exhaust!.Now after a b… awfull wet day, …that has cheered me up a lot!!!
Do you remember just how long you had to “crank” the 205s? (but were they not great when going…particularly with an RTO610 behind it)!!! Cheerio for now…(my wifes just come into the office, and asked why Im laughing so much)!!!..Bon Nuit Mes Braves.
i had to laugh at your remark about cutting the bsdfords down larry . we had a firm near us , billy higginson’s , he bought 6 brand new tk long wheelbase tippers , shoved them all into low axle and cut the two speed cables . he reckoned they were plenty quick enough like that . the yard is long gone , but the stone gatestumps are still standing painted red and blue . he wasn’t one to waste the last drop of paint in the can , cheers , dave
Saviem, mon brave, vous have upset moi! Being handed the keys to a brand-new Big J, 205 ■■■■■■■■ 6-speed AEC box was like having all my christmasses come at once, especially when a) it wasn’t my turn for a new motor and b) the ancient Seddon (150 Gardner) was looking for a regular driver & I was keeping my head down.
Apart from the abyssmal fuel consumption, which wasn’t such a concern in those far-off days, the Guy was a joy to drive. The lorry had a reasonable turn of speed and would pull better than most top-weight artics of it’s day. The cab was a bit cramped and not the sort of place to spend five nights a week, but ergonomically it was very sound- all the controls fell nicely to hand and, for me at least, the driver’s seat could be adjusted to give a really good driving position. It was the sort of fleet motor that most blokes of the time would have aspired to.
Despite the Jaguar/Leyland/Stokes thing going on, IMHO the Guy Big J was a success in it’s day and a vast improvement on most of the wrecks that we had been used to driving.
Nothing runs like a Deare.

Anyone interested in a restoration project will not be in such bad nick, sorry don’t know how to post link. go to thirsk market .com cheers SBF.
Another classic O model, Itook this shot at Carlisle show this year, With the courtesey of the owner of course, Regards Larry.
Another fine example,an O type owned by Trucknet member, seen at Gaydon.
This ex-wartime Bedford OY is seen here delivering paraffin to some buildings in Mosta, Malta, about 3 years ago.
How do I know it was paraffin ■■ The smell of it was a very good clue !!
Another , similar , OY is still on the roads in Malta, but has ( so far ! ) evaded being snapped
by my camera.
Its front grille is painted in the colours of the Union Flag. Truly British !
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
Not quite a cattle wagon ,…but near ! Its a horse box, for transporting trotting horses. This TK 6 wheeler might have been a brewery dray in its
first life`, as it has smaller-diameter wheels & tyres fitted.
Whitbred used to own many of these low-height Bedfords for beer deliveries to pubs.
Photographed on Malta , about 5 years ago.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
I remember a stack of TK brewery wagons being chinese sixes with small wheels. Anyone know if they were Bedford’s own or conversions?

Primrose did a lot of conversions for breweries. Tate and Lyle had some sliding sided box vans in the late 60s/70s, TKs with a second steer axle in front of the rear drive axle, I believe they were done in house by T and L. When they first had them, a traffic copper qualified in HGV testing I knew at the time told me he’d stopped one and wouldn’t let it continue, said every he’d been following, every time it got a bit of speed up, the driver couldn’t keep it in a straight line, I never found out what happened after that. Don’t suppose Tate and Lyle were too pleased, but the copper was a decent bloke and well qualified, so something wasn’t right.

i think that tk 6 wheeler would probaly be x scweepes (if that how you spell it)(shh you know who)
8 stud front 6 stud rear with a trailing axle had loads in 80s and broke them up as with brewery 6 wheelers twin steers with flat wheel rims 466 5 speed od g-box
plated @1470 tons gross tare @ 4700 carry 10 ton leagally great motors must have had 100 or so alloy bodies even had a tl twin steer with 500 turbo broke it up as well years ago now if only we knew should have kept them or 1
Think this was taken at Wroughton airfield late 80s.

Is that a TK cab?
Certainly is,didnt realise they fitted suicide doors though !!
Whilst waiting for the Malta-Gozo Ferry one morning a couple of years ago , this well-laden Bedford KM
joined the queue. Some nasty-looking prongs
protruded a good distance beyond the platform , and only a
red cloth served as a warning to anyone getting too close for comfort. I did not fancy walking to the rear to take a photograph,
just in case the driver wanted to play " motorized darts " by reversing !!
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
