Banning sat nav

Does anyone else think that the OPs SatNav ban might be to stop drivers from playing with it as they drive along?

We have a similar clause in our standard contract (provided by the RHA) to prevent us from being distracted by the SatNav or any other electronic device as we drive along, not an absolute ban on the things.

I doesn’t take a huge leap in imagination for a rule on the restriction on the use of SatNavs to become a complete ban in the minds of pessimistic truck drivers and overzealous and foolish office staff.

Perhaps if the OP goes to work at this firm full time he or she should go and find a grown up and find out what the real rules are?

That could well be the case, but supposing it isn’t. Am I not right in thinking you can get an external ariel thing for them anyway so the satnav itself could be discreetly placed out of sight from prying eyes?

Personally, I would use the thing if I needed it and not mess about with it while driving.

If a company is so up themselves that they worry about this kind of crap I would happily disobey them.

If the firm really made a big deal of it I would go through procedure 'till they gave up or I got bored of it.
The last thing I would be doing would be spending my own cash to conceal the use of a perfectly normal tool for my job.
