They was trying to get it voted in because rural pubs was closeing down and this caused uproar sadly it never got off the ground big campaign going on with drink driving every where
Just because it is being brought into effect in Ireland means nothing here, Ireland is just another EU country, look at all the different rules across the EU, they are not the same and for now I can’t see it ever being so.
In theory its a good idea but it alienates too many people to be practical.
Pat Hasler:
They should however be allowed to drive to work… then sit there and stare at the vehicle
This is Ireland we’re talking about, So i wouldn’t rule it out.
Pat Hasler:
Not a wind up ! I heard this news story on BBC news a couple of months ago, they started it in certain rural areas of Ireland, in one county they even issued permits for country folk to be allowed over the legal limit because they live so far from the pubs and the only way to socialise is to drive to a pubEach car would have a drink drive pass on the windscreen. They allow banned drivers to drive to remote work areas over here also, but they are not allowed off route for any reason.
As for the lorry or bus driver question … whats the point ? if they are allowed to drive to work that would be as far as they got, to then permit them to drive a truck or bus would be mindlessThey should however be allowed to drive to work… then sit there and stare at the vehicle
YES a wind up ,or simply a crock of crap .The OP said he had heard that BANNED drivers will be allowed to drive to and from work nothing to do with drink driving at all .
I stated that the closest story i could find was the one you are referring to but nothing on the entire interweb about allowing banned drivers to drive to and from work.
Limeyphil could well be right.
Ireland is a progressive country, after all I’ve heard that they’re gonna get with the programme and change over to drive on the right.
They’ve worked it out and at first it’s gonna be cars and motorcycles and if that pans out OK after year they’ll finish off with the trucks and buses.
Sorry Phil.
That was a proposal alright to back a motion,to get it put through the Dail(Irelands parliament)
Hes one of those ■■■■■■■■■,that think just because they don
t have a tram or bus service in a remote part of the country, that this would be an answer.
If you google Danny Healy Rae(Or his father Jacky,or his brother Jimmy),(all local councillors) youll see what sort of ■■■■■■■■ they are. It never did,NOR NEVER WILL,get through to being a law. Agree with you as I do Pat,about the state of our country.(ie It is Ireland we
re talking about).
Think I’ve mentioned before, but we had a lad with a class 2 who got breathalysed one morning. He was just over (I think he said he’d had 5 pints and was in bed by 11.30) and my boss kept him on as we do a lot of handball work & he could be a driver’s mate. He got a 1 year ban, and although that’s now passed, he’s not back in a truck yet. Very lucky boy to lose your license but not your job!
Phil’s weekly BS thread. Nothing to see here, move along.

What is wrong with public transport to get to work? The hours we work dont support using public transport…
If for example I did I would have to leave an hour or so earlier than I do now, take the bus to the train station, train to Reading then another bus to the DC, but then what happens if I finish before public transport, I’m not risking my life in a Reading taxi
I’d have thought if you were banned from driving as a professional driving using a Reading taxi to get to work would be fairly pointless…

This. And it caused so much uproar. Heard Healy Rae on Today FM earlier in the year, he’s a crackpot.
In the Netherlands, they have a 2 tier system for drink driving depending on your experience/age. It also seems that it is not an automatic ban unless you are caught twice in 5 years.
I knew a Dutch driver who was banned from driving his own car but was still allowed to drive a lorry at work. That may have changed now.
So there are some EU rules that are flexible, in the UK we still abide by some rules written in 1968
Don`t know what the limit is over here, but if you are a professional driver(bus, taxi, lorry),or driving on a provisional, there is a lower limit on the bag.
Right: we’ve got that ■■■■ over here. When I was on the buses we had a halfwit ■■■■ that did his licence in one day, running lights and speeding. In a bus I might add. Not only did he keep his job, but he was also allowed to drive his car to and from work and then the bus during his shift. Another one went for drink driving and was allowed the same. What I want to know is, what’s the point of banning someone and then letting them drive ffs ! As a driver that relies on his/her licence for their bread and butter, you’d think they’d look after it wouldn’t you.
So it’s not socially acceptable anymore to have a couple of 4% pints & then drive?
