Read all replies above and surprised that on the very limited information provided there is not ONE positive comment on this initiative for B&M!
I’ve noticed on numerous occasions that everyone/most are quick to ridicule, but not so quick to think it might be a good idea!!
We were ALL new drivers at some stage and needed a chance, some turned out good and some are just not capable. Let’s let it develop, get some results then comment!! I personally think it’s a good idea, we need young blood while the old boys (me included) can help them!
There is very good money in it. Just look at the boom in the discount retail sector. People need more bang for their buck. Wages haven’t risen in line with inflation and the past couple of years has proved it’s finally catching up. By rights, this game should be paying roughly £700 take home on average by now. And we aren’t alone. It’s a common theme brought on by many driving factors that people with money and power, as in the only people who can change it, just don’t care about as they have no worries in that regard. The living wage needs to be around £12 an hour to be honest

Happy so far. Wonder how many of them will be in 6 months time. One of HJs trainee scheme drivers was saying how fed up they were now they were no longer doing the cushy night shift and how they had no life because it was get up at 3.30-4am, go to work for 12/13hrs, get home around 6pm, go to bed at 8pm, rinse and repeat 5 days a week.

Hmmm! Go and look around the back of their workshop or the Widnes Scania dealer at the casualties of such a ‘quick fix solution’ to a problem. I know people who have/do work for them and most of their ‘training solutions’ are not really robust fixes - they’re just looking at meat on a seat to get over their growing pains.
Anyone ever seen the the reverse you have to do at BM pontefract. Drive past it a fair bit looks awkward.
Ps I used to do nightmare shops kwik save/somerfield but only really do Rdc work these days so my reversing skills are probably pants
In regards to Driving ambition, all I can say is I passed my test recently with them.
(Yes it was £1900 for Class 2 & 1)
5 days of training for each did feel a little rushed if I’m honest but on the Artic it was a 6x2 TGX (auto) with a 45ft box van so it gave me a feel for reversing etc compared to a wagon & drag like several local training places.
From what I saw it’s a great team although in hindsight I did feel a little bit of pressure about doing agency work through Assist with the likes of B&M etc.
Sure plenty of the trainees I met there went to the likes of B&M, Stobarts and I hear they’re in talks with McBurney’s too.
Personally I don’t fancy agency work and applied for a local haulage firm who I had an interview with the day after passing my test.
