Australian Super Road Trains for UK?

hiya .just looked at the denby clip on you tube that outfit dose look better than the stan robinson
out fit. i think stan has the luck of a motorway close to his major depots, where the dendy looks
good for any major route. foden did try this idea with a small trailer behind a 8 legger but that
was knocked back in the 60,

If the government was really useful, the trains from Calais were taken the huge number of foreign lorries up to North, instead let them running up on the M1/M6.

So, what are we waiting for■■?

Why would the road transport industry want to help the rail freight industry. When they can just use the ferry service from Hull to Zeebrugge thereby saving fuel and all the aggro of using the M1/M40/M6 but not helping investment in the rail freight industry infrastructure which would obviously be used to compete with road transport by just piggy backing trailers across europe. :unamused:

I remember that, it was ■■■■ Denby himself who drove it out of the yard, as he didn’t want to compromise any of his drivers.
He’d rang the police before hand to say what time he was setting off, and to see if they’d stop him, and if so under what law.

Good for him, it’s pioneers like him that drive things forward.

I hope Stobarts don’t try it, (just thinking about another current post)

I’ll be waiting for y’all in my Pusher Unit to help you up that big hill near Leicester Forest East.

I think we should just get to grips with a 16.5m artic first.

A lot of companies over here use the LCV (2 53’ trailers) but they are limited to the highways only also the super B trains are just as popular and not much difference in truning circle to a normal class 1 with 53’ trailer. But how many companies in the UK would be willing to build new centres next to the motorway■■? Its bad enough on the roads in the UK with one trailer behind you let alone two

They should do what they do in Sweden and Norway

Then it’s kind of like the Australian style

Used to see them a lot round Holland also. First time saw one on the road had to do a double take as thought was seeing things

Exactly it’s that idea which is a better way forward for our roads than any other type of idea at present. It’s just that the artic operators are frightened of being lumbered with loads of redundant units and the government know it would be a lot more efficient and therefore competitive with rail freight in that for every 40-45 ft container a 20 ft one can go almost free.

I was once told that Freightliner Trains were terribly slow because they always had to give way and pull into sidings for passenger trains.

And also, any imbalance in trade (i.e. more imports than exports) means that a lot of containers are carrying non freight paying fresh air.
