FFS i thought Normanton in West Yorkshire was rough. 40 degrees being stalked by a dinasaur no phone drinking out of a river .Would they have been warned about potential floods or was it freak weather?
We have big problems over here which have arrived from other continents but not on that scale. Ours could be cured with the right government .It always shocks me that people going swimming in rivers with clear warnings of danger but this poor couple by the sound of it were driving trying to avoid the problem.
@Ramone thatās very undeveloped country up there, Ramone. There are no proper roads, just tracks. All the freight to Kowanyama goes by barge from Normanton.
Anyone driving it that country needs good planning and driving skills. The latter necessity was lacking on this occasion. Driving in that landscape requires the ability to make sensible judgments. The driver made a bad call trying to cross the river. He should have either waited for the water to drop or used another crossing.
I donāt know where he tried to cross, but many of the rivers and tributaries up there are tidal.
I donāt think people (me) realise the size of Australia. When mentioned i think of Australia as a country but of course itās a continent. Obviously you will have diverse weather just like here in Europe where we seem to get the ā ā ā ā ā ā end of the stick all ways up. Iāve got a bit of an obsestion with the Australian tv docus like Outback Opal Hunters and Aussie Gold Hunters. I find them fascinating but cringe when i see them walking through long grass in shorts wondering what could give them a playful (lethal) nip.They donāt seem bothered at all. Not so long ago i was watching the Gold Hunters and a very healthy young lady just casually mentioned that she had to be careful searching for gold with her detector near a river because it had Saltys in there ffs. Nothing seems to phase them. Itās just a completely different way of life to ours .Our biggest danger to life comes from 10 Downing St

Just been out for a bit of breakfast and thought itās a bit windy today the car was blowing all over the motorway.Then i remembered what SDU sent yesterday and thought no itās a bit of a breeze. A bloody cold fast breeze but just a breeze all the same

My ex and me used to run a small business which involved a lot of time out in bushland (sometimes remote), and though I used to wear shorts (because hot weather) Iād wear gaiters that came up to a bit below my knees. Because we were often a good 2 hours off the beaten track and a good 1/2 hour tramp from the 4WD, weād take sensible precautions - bandages long enough to wrap a leg with for example. In all the years we were out there, neither of us was bitten (except by mossies, horse-flies, paper wasps, the usual) even though we saw many hundreds of snakes, mostly elapids.
Most of the time, most snakes will clear off when they hear humans coming, but note I said āmostā. Thereās always the chance one will get snotty, and one is all it takes.
Well weāve had a weekend of āhigh windsā and now āYellow warningsā for ice??? so we have to be careful out there. How did we ever cope before ?The biggest disruption we had locally was the standard of football at Elland Road (blaming the wind for that one) but elsewhere a plane landing at Belfast airport in bad weather broke a nose wheel which as closed the airport. Itās calming down now so we can get back to slating the clowns in government who are killing our pensioners along with our farmers you know the ones who have worked all their lives to get rewarded with an insult of a pension and farmers who get treated like ā ā ā ā . Oh well at least charities will do ok in the festive period or will they 45% tax on donations apparently while at the same time we give foreign farmers and the sub continent billions of Ā£Ā£Ā£s in foreign aid. India will put it towards their space programme.4 years 6months and counting ā¦ where the hell did that come from. I think iād prefer the saltys and snakes at least its warm there
Warm it may be, but a few days ago there was a news article where a crock was taken by a shark, in a few inches of beach water.
Thatās frightening were there people swimming nearby?

I best be quiet thereās a little old lady doing 3 years for writing something on social media he took offence to but good old peado Hugh Edwards and his mate got suspended sentences .Itās the times we live in apparently

We get land sharks here too, mostly in Canberra (once called āa waste of a good sheep stationā).
Not meaning to be pedantic, but I thought it was a waste of two good sheep stations.
