Australia then and now

Cross purposes, I was referring to the railmotor.

Still searching for the elusive Crossley.

@parkroyal2100 What a picture, 4 Brits, 1 German and 3 Yanks. Is the Foden on the left one of Ted Stilesā€™ Outback Transportā€™s? Canā€™t see a name but the colour scheme looks similar.

Dunno Spardo, long before my time (but I remember Brambles depot in Port Kembla well, used to go there frequently). I didnā€™t mean to share the photo but it just turned up when I posted the link, perhaps Ray Dyson (if heā€™s still around) could help you. Itā€™s a cracking photo all the same and I hope I donā€™t get into deep doo-doo for posting the link.

Forgive the sentimentality, but I think itā€™s rather a shame that so many decent ā€œcookingā€ old Falcons (and Holdens) get ā€œrestomoddedā€ - by all means fit better brakes and suspension, but otherwise leave them alone.

Great picture PR. The Foden also looks like Aboods livery, but hard to say in black and white.
The three from the same fleet, far right, are also interesting. Maybe Brumbles, but the sign writing doesnā€™t look right. Two B Model Macks and an AR190(?). All three have mechanical arms on the driversā€™ doors, in lieu of blinkers. Note the period customised long range fuel tank, a surplus 44 gallon drum, quite common in the day.

I loved those tin hands for turning, especially in Sydney traffic, came very close to knocking someone off his bike more than once.

As I said to Spardo, I didnā€™t mean to post the photo, it just came up when I posted the link.

The Foden does remind me of Aboods, but then in an old B/W photo a red and white livery might be more distinct. See that cobbled-together sleeper cab on the back? This might ring a bell

And no, itā€™s not ex-Gascoignes, itā€™s a NSW wagon.

It is hard to tell, being before both of our times.

Is this how you guys drive around in Australia ?

Some do, til they get defected, then they squeal like a stuck pig.

Everyone ready for six hours in front of the tv, on Sunday?
Bathurst 1000, the greatest race on earth.

Looks like we get free viewing of practise and racing.
https://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/international-viewers

Thatā€™s the 24 hour, not the 1000 km, which is on this weekend.

Ah, righto.

Is that the one on otherwise public roads? If so I ripped round it one day in my Falcon and my 2 mates returning from Denisā€™ parents at Dubbo.

Looks like 9.99$Aus for a month or 99.99 for a year.

Very roughly Ā£5 or Ā£50.

Do you get coverage? If not, and you have a VPN, it is live streamed on

and Fox Sport.

@Spardo yes a public road. It was built as a lookout during the depression, to provide work.
A mate of mine also drove it and mentioned how different it looked to raceday broadcasting. Later he realised heā€™d driven around in the wrong direction.
I took my eldest daughter around, in a company owned XF Falcon, all the residents wheelybins were awaiting emptying and she commented ā€œItā€™s a good thing the race isnā€™t on a Tuesday.ā€

Itā€™s an awesome track with a vibrant atmosphere on the race weekend, but you canā€™t beat the TV for coverage.
The in car cameras brilliant coverage was developed by channel 7 and adopted worldwide.

7+ is free if you have a VPN. Try it before you settle down with drinks and snacks, ready to watch.
