Aussie Atki's

NIce pics Jamie, thank you!!

You know, that Taylor-Hull cab really is spectacularly ugly, isn’t it?

Yeah ya not wrong mate, they have a style of their own. I think they kinda reflect New Zealand at the time,it would have been a fairly isloated place in the 60’s before jet plane travel,so there would’nt have been a lot of outside influneces apart from stuff from the UK and Australia and I guess for the designers it was a modern radical design. I like them they have a definate home grown look about them.
Found another early Kiwi one.

That’s another cracker, Jamie - almost like a U.K. motor apart from the opening screens.

I must get some scanning done, to try to keep up with you! In the meantime, just for a change, here’s a South African Atkinson with a locally-built cab

Good one 240 mate,I’ve not seen one of those before and year mate get scanning I’d like to see some more.

There is a yard obout 100ks south of perth full of all sorts of old gear, including a 1950’s bonneted Leyland Buffalo, which was a big truck in it’s day and only avalable for export. Also in this yard I found these three MK3 Atkis.

Nice one Jamie - the Buffalo must have been a rare old beast!

OK, a couple of quick scans:

First one is an Aussie motor, a 28T gross machine on a regular round trip between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and dating from 1965

Secondly, a New Zealand wagon from 1965, a 6x4 tractor owned by John Fraser & Sons Contractors Limited of Hastings. Running at 48 tons gross, it had a 150 Gardner and a Fuller R96 10-speed gearbox

From Down Under

G’day fellas,

I thought it was about time this one came back. I’ve found some more Atkis.

What a great looking outfit,I’d love to take here for a drive. Not one of my pics it came from an Aussie site.

We’ve seen this one before,what a truck.

Cheers Jamie

this was taken at the Whitehorse International dealers in Dandenong in the early 80’s

these were taken on the old Hume Hwy near Campbellfield/Fawkner,again in the early 80’s

Good one,thanks mate.

Some classic Aussie 70’s colour scheme there.

I like the Scania 111 through the fence.

Some nice pics, thanks for posting!

Not quite the same without the traditional radiator though, are they?

Graet stuff mate,

That’s an interesting artice about PNG,sounds like tough country to be opperating a truck in.

I’ve never been there,or really seen many trucks from PNG,those that I have seen were pretty heavy duty even today.

I wonder if any of those old Atki’s are still there?

I like the bull bars with the big ‘A’ they look great.
