It probably takes so long is because someone is making a nice little earner from it all.

i cant see why upgrading to these smart motorways takes so long, i used to do steel fixing and one of the bases that they use for these matrix sign we could fix and pour in 2 days, they can resurface a motorway of about 5 miles long in about a week then maybe a couple of weeks to lay cabling, steel erectors could have one matrix a night up at least, so where do they get the 3 years from, i can understand that they might need to reinforce the hard shoulder a bit but come on, these jobs are dragged out to the death, even with h and s there is no excuseIt probably takes so long is because someone is making a nice little earner from it all.
So Ernie Marples lives again.
The smart motorway is going to be from J28 to J35a on the M1 and J0-J1 on the M18.
Plenty of money to be made on that job.
I only use the M1 occasionally. What would be the best/quietist time to use it from Leeds -Derby?
Now they have started roadworks on Chain Bar going on for 43 weeks!!!

Apparently the roundabout is going to be widened - an extra lane or summat.
Hope they are going to put traffic lights on the road from Oakenshaw; you can
wait to get out for ages on a morning because of all the nobheads coming through
the other two sets at red.
I reckon all roadworkers must be agency guys.
It’s not a full-time job, always wearing gay hi-viz, and obviously well versed in the art of “hanging the job out”
There also never seems anyone doing anything on roadworks, this is down to 3 possible ailments, broken leg (limp,) Bluetooth earpiece, or flask.

Christmas Day, about 4 in the morning.
Hasn’t the stretch from Junction 25 upto the M18 had some form of roadworks going off for the last 10 year? I’m sure when I started out in 2005 they were making it 4 lanes from Junction 25 upto junction 28 then when that was finished they started on the " Smart" motorway section?

A lot of government departments and local authorities use consultants. In a past life I have dealt with a number of highway consultants and we often used to think a good strap line for highway consultants would be ‘Consultancy - If you are not part of the solution, there is good money to be made prolonging the problem’
