As a matter of interest

Andyroo:
Another thing somebody told me was that you could drive a preserved Bus on a Car Licence as long as there are no passengers, or not for ‘Hire or Reward’. Can you still do this? Does it apply to preserved goods vehicles?

Andyroo

I can fill you in on the law for driving preserved buses Andy: If the bus is older than 30 years you can drive it on a car licence with fewer than 8 passengers and not for hire or reward. Newer buses require a PCV licence.

When the rules were changed back in the 90’s they allowed existing drivers of preserved buses to continue driving them by getting a letter from their employer (I wrote mine out and got the boss to sign it!!). You then had to pass a medical (standard LGV/PCV) and purchase a new licence, which is subject to the same renewal rules as LGV/PCV. Thus armed I can drive an old bus with a full load of passengers but not for hire or reward.

Not sure about preserved trucks though.
