anyone remember these tamworth firms

I remember CTS we did subbie work for them. Great fella in the office called Derek. There’s a picture on Scrap book memories somewere of a few truck’s in the yard.

I lived in Tamworth for a short while as a lad. I was at school with an Aucott (Andrew), I’m pretty sure he was one of the hauliers family. I don’t recall any hauliers on the A5 between Fazeley and Mile Oak cos I lived down there. Mind you it was a very long time ago.

Wasn’t Smurfitt the one in Fazeley, somewhere near Foseco/Drayton Manor? I really don’t remember.

Pete Harding had that old F88 that he made higher and longer. 2 drivers i remember were Pete Smith and Peter Henney, he bought 2 Scania.s B941 KRY B942 KRY , Pete Obello had a white and blue 141 on fridges worked from kent.

im from mile oak wolfie the yard was colin perkins just up from the longwood pub opposite bonehill wm rowe and clarkes had some wagons parked there and colins firm martin christian transport were in there ford d series. he had ivecos, ford cargos,a few dafs and a scania when i worked for him 13 years ago

I lived in Bonehill and went to Longwood school. Mind you I am going back nearly 40 years. I was about 7 when we went there and about 14 when we left. Of course then I didn’t know I was going to end up a wagon driver so I really didn’t pay attention.

That yard up from the Longwood pub must have been opposite Park lane going down to Bonehill. I must have walked past it lots of times going to school but I don’t remember it at all. Any pics?

EDIT: Ohh man I just remembered. A colleague of my dads ran a few wagons, a bloke called Mike Smith. Had a yard between Fazeley and the river bridge heading toward Two Gates on the left. Must have been somewhere opposite the Plough and Harrow pub?

Man really stretching the old memory now.

Hello Dave
They are owned by Weinberger now and have the works at Dosthill, Hartlebury, Worsley and Fir St Sedgley. They have stopped production at Sedgley, I went in for a load a few months ago and there was only one bloke left working there loading the lorries, running the stock down.

Hi John,
When I saw them on the building sites,it would have been 1964/65,we were at Credenhill RAF camp just outside Hereford, used to get Butterly Brick Company from Derbyshire as well, they had sandy coloured AEC’s.
Cheers Dave.

Hello Dave
I did a few loads out of Butterley Brick at Waingroves near Ripley Derbyshire in the early seventies, they still had AECs and Leylands but they were blue, I’ve regularly been in their for loads since 2000, when it was Hansons, working for Browns Builders Merchants at Derby, Sadly another brickworks that has closed, the last time I went in they were just gettig rid of stock and storing bricks from other brickworks as they do at Hansons Heather Leic works, they now belong to Heidleberg Cement I think.

John

Hi again John,
Thats the shame about this country, some good old firms disappearing. Its easy to shut them down, but very hard for a new company to start up. Its very sad to see all these firms going, not only from the recession, but also from the fact that big conglomerates are buying them up,just to close them down.I will put my soapbox down now before I depress everybody. :frowning:
Cheers Dave.

Ah, a spark of memory. The REA ones look familiar. Best I can do Soz lol

J.CLARKE TRANSPORT are now in Elford but dont think they are in haulage anymore, they are into truck and trailer rental and repairs, they do the repairs to all our trucks and funnily enough until I get put through my class 2 I am in one of there rental trucks.

As for the W.ROWE truck I am working for Lichfield International which is owned by Ron Rowe I will ask if there is any connection.
