Anyone else getting fed up with this industry?

I don’t know where you get your ideas, but they’re highly entertaining

Using the engine compression to slow the vehicle is exactly what is needed; as long as your foot is off the accelerator, hardly any fuel is used, you can see this on the fuel consumption feature found on most vehicles.
Oh… and it hasn’t been VOSA since 2014, it’s DVSA now

Yep engine braking is exactly what is needed. In direct contradiction with the driver training mantra of brakes to slow gears to go.While as I said just standing on the approach to any roundabout or junction says that it ain’t happening whether auto or manual.Possibly with the exception of I shift but at best the downshifts don’t seem to be early enough or low enough to create the required engine speeds on the approach.

Ref auto transmissions and engine braking ? If the vehicle is fitted with an engine brake ? when that’s applied that will then change down the gears in the box for you, so no problem,
But for the Cheapskate PLCs that do not spec that? or have the Manual mode deleted so they can employ Steering Wheel Attendants instead of Proper Drivers, that’s another story lol
A auto box can be driven in manual mode , so you have full control of the vehicle at any one time, just like the good old Fuller did,
The problem today is most of the Owners have not got a F=====g Clue what and how to spec a vehicle for a start, All they know is go for the Cheapest Lease, so they can work Cheap ffs.
The days of Professional Haulage have long gone? ie the day when vehicles were bought and paid for Before they came in the yard, to do that you had to work for the Proper Rate? Then you could pay the driver a proper Wage?
The HGV test today for a licence is a Joke, The ones from Kelloggs are much better. lol
Then you get the Clowns that manage the companys that cannot drive ? The Spanner in the office that cannot ? All trying to tell the Steerer how to do it lol , ffs You could not make it up,
That’s why they have Trackers, because they don’t know how long it takes from A to B? and a camera in the cab to make sure its not self driven,
We all thought it was s–t in our days? But they sure where the best days, Because you were working Real People, Not the Plastic ones of today,

But have you tried engine braking with a full load on a Volvo, Renault, Actros, Scania etc. basically anything that’s not a DAF

You’re not a driver. Your very limited experience and minimal, but outdated knowledge, is irrelevant.

What are are the Volvo/Renaults like? I’ve experienced the other 3.

Volvo is useless

Renault barely useful

Why do you think that making the case for maximising the use of engine braking to minimise stress and wear on brakes is ‘outdated’ ?.

Surprised by the Volvo, thought they’d be the dogs. Never drove one. Sometimes drive a 14 plate Daf CF, that’s a great engine brake.

The state of the British Haulage Industry and are you fed up with it?
.
You could actually write a book about it all…the whole dam cluster ■■■■.
The ridiculously excessive hours, the t.s &c.s, the injustices and pi55 takes handed out by crappy firms, the micro management, the monitoring and surveillance, the attitude towards drivers and the way they are looked upon, the dodgy school kid planners, the inept TMs who think they are running a school, the job being one big box ticking excercise with no real substance, the lack of facilities, the lack of overnight parking, cameras in cabs, the way our voices are ignored despite empty promises from the Tory govt, the lack of competence amongst many drivers, the lack of empathy, the DCPC, the H&S issues.
Where would you start?

But we are discussing the efficiency of engine brakes.:flushed:
Ok got it.

Apologies for off topic.

:joy:
Nah I was not being entirely serious mate, I’m the worst for going off topic on here.

Just that the whole sh.bag industry wants rubbed out re.drawn and started again.
I know complaining about it all on here will make zero difference, but it’s a bit like the f.up this govt is making, if you aint seen to complain they have won.

It is what they all want in society nowadays…especially the authoriative bodies in the haulage industry and modern trsnsport firms.
To shut the ■■■■ up about it and comply.

The main problem is too many do just that,.and especially drivers today…

I couldn’t agree more. I’d retire tomorrow if I could afford to.

iv learned not to moan, its easy to get in the habit of it before you know it youv never got a smile on your face im sure we all know a few like that. I will moan about thieves however! in a layby on A14 just short of Felixstowe is a white unit been there about a week i firstly noticed the locker door open and today see somebods had one of the tailight lenses !
