Any old promotor drivers around

Angela Buss was married to Promotor driver Richard Brown who went on to become one of my partners at Motorvation. Sadly the marraige didn,t last, too much confrontation!

She was a big girl!

Are you guys still at Chilham?

Do you mean cuddly!!
Chilham? Chilham? Sounds to cold a place for me.

For those not in the know its Jazzandy on drums. Baghdad Fair. Mid 80’s I think.

Yes, still at the rly station but I,m no longer part of it and I believe the company has been “aquired”. I was part of the small team that operated the IBM mobile exhibition trailer for almost 10 years, when they decided not to re-new the contract 2 years ago, I turned it in too, nothing else to do that was as good and now too bloody old!

Micky T., sorry to disapoint but Dave says before Pro,s he was at National Carriers and before that he drove Maidstone&District buses. He says he never worked with Bugsy before Promotor and he never worked with him at Promotor because he was bone idle!!

Strange T.G… I was under the impression that they had worked together. Still it is 30 odd years ago. Yes, I always had Buggsy down as a matinee idol.

Graham told me he had worked for Lowes of Paddock Wood in the late 60’s or early 70’s. They of course were doing the Naffi work to mainly Germany but he said it was sometimes down to Italy. He drove one of their 6 wheeled ERF units. I have searched on the Lowe thread but can’t find any mention of him. After he left Lowes he became an O/D doing mainly M/E. Problem was he said most of his trips were through Budapest where he got to know this lady and each trip was taking longer than the last. In the end he had to give it up and perhaps thats when he joined Promotor.

I heard that Marshall Steve had retired from Motorvation, some time ago.

Yeah. I remember Buggsy telling me that he had been on Lowes. They loaded out of the NAAFI depot at Amesbury and tipped in Krefeld. It might have been Micky Packham or Gordon Jones that told me they had worked with him somewhere, before Pro-Motor. They worked for Pro’s after I had left but I knew them in Russia when they worked for Barry Martin and then Kepstowe

Lets narrow it down to;—err Bulgaria, perhaps!

Bulgaria it is. Err, can you elaborate.

Well I’ve just got up and the “little grey cells” are no more helpful than last night. Google didn’t help either. Is it east of Sophia or on the old ring road? If not I give up.

Looks like you got a bit of a stutter there Micky T. Micky T. Micky T.

Knowledgable ex Promotor drivers or others. Is this Gordon Jones? This lad was on the company mid 80’s and was on the Tripoli and Benghazi double exhibition event we set up for medical and pharmaceutical companies in Libya around that time.

Have just looked in my photo album and see that the Libya event took place in November 1983. Richard Brown and Graham Bertram were also there.

Hi Sandway, I took that photo at a place called Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria in 1980. If you crossed over The Friendship Bridge, over The Danube River at Russe between Rumania and Bulgaria, it was about 200 klm’s from Russe.
When you carried on along that road you went through Gabrovo, over The Shipka Pass, Kazanlak, Stara Zagora and onto Haskovo, where you could pick up the E5 between Plovdiv and Svilengrad, or as a lot of the lads used to call it, Syphilisgrad.
I have spent most of today “Google Researching” trying to find a current photo of the tunnel and I came across this, it’s changed a bit but the entrance to the tunnel is still the same.
B.T.W. If you remember The Shipka Pass also known as “The Cobbled Mountain” it seems that they are building a tunnel under there now. :frowning:

You could avoid the Shipka pass by going via what we used to call ‘Little Shipka’ but that could still catch you out in wintry weather - here’s me on Little Shipka in '95, going to Turkey). Robert
