I’ve had 20-25 mins poa at Cherwell valley , been at tip 30 mins on poa yet it’s showing 3 hrs 15 !!! , obviously tacho is not changing mode , not showing 5 mins o/work lay-by pee either
Ive WhatsApp them pics info , as much as I can do with it .
In that case make manual entries on the back of a tacho roll. CYA
Make it very clear to the office and workshop that the tacho is defective. Leave a big paper trail. CYA
The latest tachos, as said above, have GNSS similar to GPS.
They are meant to be more difficult to fiddle with, but as often said , “more to go wrong”, and it sounds like there is more going wrong.
Yes informed office & they did eventually come back with straight into vmu when you get back / write on printout .
It’s odd though as seems to of only started when I went into Cherwell valley .
You can change it manually , but obviously not driving , as that’s done automatically
Bring back the days of log books , we never had these issues ha ha
Yeah, but remembering what you were doing last Wednesday, when you’re catching up the log-book on a Friday afternoon was a strain.
It’s obviously a fault , put on other work before I left to see if it changed to driving and it’s not
Top of my head.
If you have a faulty tacho you must record all activities on the back of a tacho roll.
Do that at the start of a shift. and the end of a shift. If the fault is only noticed part way through do it ASAP.
You must use the back of a tacho roll not a notebook.
Do two copies of both the start and end entries. You keep one of each and give the other to the office.
I am open to correction on the above.
Yes that’s what I’ve done now franglais , it looks like the fault started as I say at Cherwell valley so just put a note message came up then , tacho now faulty , company now informed & will take straight to vmu when get back
There checking , company , as someone had same issue last week , there not sure if same lorry at moment , but that one they say was checked out & sorted , if it is same lorry fault has recurred
I can see that you’re saying the VU is not showing the correct activities but does a vehicle printout show the correct activities ?
It’s probably not likely that the VU is recording the activities if it’s not showing them on the VU display but worth checking I would have thought.
If you’re satisfied that a vehicle printout shows all the correct activities including driving then you can just do two printouts at the start of the shift (or as soon as the fault is known about) and two more at the end of the shift and use the tachograph in the usual way, if a vehicle printout is not showing the correct activities then you will need to write them on the back of a printout as said.
No the printout is not sho
No the printout out is not showing the correct modes tacho ( I’ve driven from Grantham - Basingstoke - Coventry & it’s showing 1 hr 35 driving ) , it is not automatically changing to driving ( obviously we can’t change it manually ) , it’s just staying on what mode ( other work / break / poa ) it’s set on .
It was working correctly , recording driving before I went in Cherwell valley at 5.51 , put it on poa ,( then message came up ) & it’s stayed on poa until I realised & changed modes to rest / other work .
I’ve done 2 printouts & written periods of driving on them manually .
Since leaving Basingstoke it’s been on other work for 2 periods , apx 50 mins / 1 hr 30 when it should of been on / changed to driving
I’ll try & find out from vmu what that means , but I think they just get tacho specialists to look at them
Dropped lorry at vmu , told fitter who said 1 min job to rectify , disconnect battery / reconnect, didn’t try as already took card out ,
And how many days until it recurs?
Not having a go at you @ady . But that seems like a bodge, not a fix to me.
That’s interesting, there was a time when disconnecting the battery for any length of time would mean a trip to the tachograph centre, maybe they now reset themselves.
Alternatively the fitter could be confusing a tachograph with a computer
Knowing fitters as i do franglais I’ve no doubt it is , he did say he’s seen it before so maybe recurring
I’ve done my bit though
It’s a strange one as messages on tacho,s they normally say park it round the back & we will get daf/ scania etc to look at it , so I just put it straight round the back tacho & he said when I told him the fault I should of just brought to him a a minute job to mend .
Makes you wonder who said just disconnect the battery’s , and as franglais say is it really a proper fix , or just a short time fix until it recurs
Seems to be a recurring theme on 73 plate Scannys. Don’t know it’s a certain batch or if it’s widespread. Mine has been good as gold for the last two weeks
