We had a brilliant new manager arrive at our place…and put his great ideas to the test: When coupling up a trailer…reverse up to the pin…switch off engine…connect airlines…restart engine…and connect trailer…switch off engine…put safety catch on /number plate…wind up the legs…take off trailer brake…start engine…pull forward…switch off engine…close trailer doors…may be saving fuel, but puts more wear and tear on the starter.
if the trucks on a repair maintenance contract then its not his dosh paying for the repairs…sad and pathetic but true.
If you are letting you’re euro six truck idle in London, or any major city, you are doing people a favour.
If what volvo trucks say is true, and that is, that the fumes coming out of the exhaust are cleaner than the air that has been pulled in from the environment.
Or was i dreaming?

Pretty much what our lot expect from us. They don’t own the lorries, they do own the fuel and it’s their train set and they pay my wages so I’ll go along with it. Pressing a starter button a few times isn’t really that much of a hardship tbh.
Every rest area and service area here has ‘NO IDLING’ signs warning of large fines, the thing is that they will only issue a ticket if the cab is unoccupied during high temps in summer or cold temps in winter. I have found the only state that cops get nasty about such things is New Jersey. I often park at a small convenience store with parking for 6 trucks, just north of Philadelphia, each space has a ‘No idling’ sign but when cold or excessively hot I have run my engine and A/C or heating all night with no problem, the site is in the middle of a housing estate and I woke up one morning to find a cop parked next to me, he never said a word about the idling, we even walked inside the store to get coffee together.
